That seemed to have cheered Dari up. Good. Reese smiled and took a step back to observe the agents.
Maia happily took the toddler and held her close. The nymph stared, wide eyed at Toby for a long moment before giggling. She clapped her hands, then buried them in Maia's hair. She babbled as she carefully examined it.

"Don't get any ideas," Toby said, reaching out to touch a chubby little hand, "That's my fiancee." He continued to make faces and try to amuse the child.
"She's cute," Lori said. "Is her tree safe away from the developers?"

The nymph frowned then, looking serious for a moment. "No, mine!" she announced, wrapping her arms around Maia and snuggling against her.
Maia had to stifle a laugh. "You've got competition." she said, and grinned at Toby.
"She's safe," Reese assured Lori immediately. "It's very close to here."

Toby laughed and reached out to stroke the nymph's shoulder. "Reese has some trouble on his hands, I think! She's pretty cute, huh?"
Lori nodded. "Good, good. Would you be able to show Dari the specific tree? We want to keep it in mind, and he has an eidetic memory. Now we have to be doubly sure they don't go any further."

The nymph looked between Toby and Maia, then blew a raspberry at both of them before reaching for the werewolf. "I think he does," Maia agreed, grinning. "I think you have a fan."
"Sure. Come on, Dari. I'll show you some other stuff, too." No babies, though. He didn't think he'd be getting his nymph back for a while at least.

Toby laughed and then accepted the baby. His facial expressions were still exaggerated.
"Why hello there! How are you today? Do you like puppies?"
Dari smiled and nodded. "Let's drop off the kit first. I don't want Mama to get home and panic."

The nymph didn't seem to understand most of what Toby said, but she caught onto one word. "Poppy?!" she looked around, hoping to catch sight of one. "Poppy?!" Her expresión crumpled, and she sniffed. There was no puppy, was there?
"Right, follow me," Reese said, and led Dari off.

"Oh no!" He had to laugh, though. How cute! He handed the baby back to Maia, disappeared into the tent for approximately 10 silent seconds, and then emerged in his feral form, which even Maia had never seen. Tadaa! Puppy!
Dari followed happily, only looking back and smiling once when he saw Toby change.

The baby was immediately pacified, seeing Toby in puppy form. She reached for him, and Maia set her down. "Poppy!" The nymph petted him happily.
Maia had never seen Toby in this form before. Shed grown used to wolf-man form, but this was new! "Well, now I know how far you'll go to keep a baby from crying," she grinned and stroked his ears.

Toby showed affection in the only way he could with no hands and licked the little nymph. He stood there and let her tug at his fur as she pet him and he wagged his tail without really thinking about it. It was a little odd to have your butt out in the open air like this, but at least he was a fluffy sort of wolf. When Maia scratched his ears they wiggled in response. It still felt nice, even if he wanted to deny it.
He figured he'd stay like this until the baby lost interest and he'd be able to hold her again.
Lori chuckled and leaned against the trunk of a tree.
"So? When are you two going to start having kids?" Lori teased.

The baby squealed in delight at being licked and wrapped her arms around Toby as far as they'd go. "My poppy," she said. She tried to scratch at his ears like Maia had, but instead ended up tugging on them.
Maia looked up at the question. She hesitated for a moment, seeming to realize Lori was teasing. "One day," she said then, and demonstrated to the nymph how to properly pet a Toby's ears.

Oh. A sore subject? 'Sorry," Lori muttered and watched the three interact.
Toby barked softly, not wanting to startle the baby. Sure. Her poppy. Whatever. He let her tug at his ears but began to wag properly when the baby figured it out. Luckily he was larger and a much different color than the average wolf or he'd worry he was endearing her to wild wolves. He didn't think there were many in here, though... at least not nearby. He couldn't smell them.

The nymph hugged him again before noticing something by her feet. She gasped and watched it intently--a bug! She followed it carefully, but the tiny thing flew off, startling her. She turned back to Toby. "Poppy!" She complained.
Maia snickered.

What? He hadn't done it! Toby snuffled after the bug and then approached the toddler and walked a close circle around her. It was okay. He was fuzzy, see?

The fuzzy puppy did win over any bug, any day. The nymph giggled and pressed her face to Toby's fur, snuggling it. She yawned.
"Here it is," Reese said, gesturing to a small willow that stood besides the stream. "See? I'm keeping her safe."
