Dari stroked the little girl in what he hoped was a soothing way before laughing as her brothers played.
"This is great," he said. He had no mystical animal magnetism himself so things like this didn't just happen. He picked the female up again and cuddled her close.

The little girl snuggled back and licked Dari's hand. Her tail poofed and she seemed quite happy with this arrangement.
Reese smiled at Dari. "Want to see something else?" he asked. "But you can't tell your friends." He glanced towards the campsite. The guardian looked a little nervous.

Dari made a few kissy sounds at the female and stroked her fur, unable to stop the soft chuckle that emerged. Ah yes. This was life. Besides, didn't they always say you were supposed to make friends with entities the best you could? He seemed to have done pretty well so far.
He looked off toward the campsite with Reese and then back down at the kits. But...! He'd only just gotten here!
"I won't," he assured the guardian.

"Stay here," Reese advised. He trusted Dari not to run off with the kits. "I'll be right back," He phased into the ground. He was back moments later, carrying a young nymph. "Look what I found yesterday."

Dari sat with the kits and kept them playing and pet and interested before Reese reappeared. His expression might have shown his shock at the appearance of another entity. Oh my! This forest was doubly important! Look at that little thing! He grinned again and stood with the female kit to greet the nymph.
"Hello, darling. You're brand new, aren't you?" He still stroked the female kit lovingly.

"Her tree isn't far from here," Reese said, and set the nymph down. The little one promptly started toddling towards the campsite. "No you can't go that way, that'll spoil the secret!" the guardian hissed, and took her hand.
The nymph looked up at Dari instead, and gave a little wave.

"Why are you keeping her a secret?" Dari asked. He grinned and waved back at her, then offered his arms to her. Would she let him pick her up? "Lori's boyfriend-- well. Lori has a nymph in his back yard too. She doesn't come out much."

The nymph lifted her arms and smiled at Dari. "Up!" She said.
Reese hesitated. Lori had a boyfriend? How bizarre. But if that made him happy Reese supposed it didn't matter. "Does he really? I don't want them taking her."

Dari grinned from ear to ear and scooped the nymph up. She sure was friendly for a nymph! "Hey, muffin! Do you have a name?"
He turned to Reese then and shook his head. "No, no. We don't take healthy, happy entities. There'd be no reason to. She just means we have to be even more stalwart."

The nymph leaned against Dari, hands exploring the fabric of his shirt. She babbled happily.
"I don't think she does," Reese said. "At least, not one she's been able to tell me." He smiled at Dari's next words. "Okay. I guess we can share The secret with your friends."

Dari kissed her head and turned slightly side to side.
"Yeah? I know!" he said to the babbling and then: "You're such a sweetheart." To Reese: "She'll probably adopt one after a while if she doesn't have progenitor nymphs. Come on. Everyone loves babies."
He started back toward camp. Lori noticed them first: "Who is this?! Hi, Little Love!"
Toby turned then and smiled, nudging Maia. "Look."

Maybe this was normal alien behavior... But Reese thought Dari was acting a lot like--a girl. He wrinkled his nose slightly, and kept the thought to himself. "There aren't any other nymphs around," he said. "I don't know how she happened."
The baby nymph immediately reached for Lori, noticing a new source of attention.
Maia looked up. What was--oh! Oh, a baby! The selkie lit up, going to Dari's side. "She's precious," she said. "Hi sweetie!" She got a happy babble in return.

Dari frowned deeply. Abandoned so soon! He very dejectedly handed the nymph over to Lori, but his expression made it clear he wasn't happy about it.
"Well," he said to Reese, "She happened spontaneously. Through nature."
Lori reached out and took the nymph. He grinned and bounced her a bit. He wasn't sure if games would scare her, what with being a little nature spirit and all. He leaned the baby toward Maia as she babbled.
"Oh, she told you what-for," Toby said. Lori just chuckled.

Reese rolled his eyes at Dari's unhappy expression, and disappeared for a brief moment. He reappeared with a fox kit, offering it to Dari. Yeah. He was definitely girly. But it was kind of sweet. "Here," he said.
The nymph immediately discovered Lori's hair. So much more than the last person that'd been holding her! She buried her hands in it, babbling. She gave it a tug and reached for Maia. This person had EVEN MORE!

Dari recognized the kit and smiled, giving it a little kiss on the nose before snuggling it into his arms.
Lori laughed and bent his head forward to let the nymph play with his hair. He responded to her as if she was speaking to him intelligibly and then offered the child to Maia. Toby stepped beside and behind Maia when she took the baby and gave the toddler an exaggerated happy-surprised face.
