That sounded like a creative way to do very little. Reese nodded though, and started taking things out of the bag.

Maia paused and turned. "Told me what?" She tried of times they'd mentioned camping. Dari'd gone with Cody a few times now... Ah. She should've considered that. Toby and Carolyn had gone camping often, hadn't they? He'd told her, when she'd asked him.

Maia swallowed. Her eyes were wide and horrified. Oh. Oh... No, he'd never-- ...How was she supposed to respond? It wasn't something words could fix. Nothing could change what Toby had gone through. She wrapped her arms tightly around him.

Maia didn't say anything at first, just held him. She didn't think anything could hurt them here. Reese had said humans didn't come to this part of the forest, and apart from Toby, they seemed to be the most dangerous things around. "I love you," she said.

Maia wasn't sure she could promise. The selkie was worried about Toby. Would he sleep? She nodded all the same though, and and followed him back to the campsite.

Reese looked over. "Hey! If you guys don't help, I won't show you the baby foxes later!"

"Your girlfriend didn't, so you don't get to see the foxes either," Reese decreed. He looked to Dari, and offered the alien his hand. "There's three of them. They're just learning how to walk, so they wobble a lot. Their mom goes off to hunt and she knows I'll protect them. C'mon!"

"The badgers try to take them," Reese added, looking grave. He really didn't like those creatures. He led Dari a little ways away; a fox burrow had been dug presumedly by the mother. "Animals know to come here," Reese added. "No one disturbs them, and they're safest here."

A little red fox bounded out of the den, tipping at Reese. The guardian scooped it up and offered It to Dari. "You can hold it," he said with a smile. Another poked its head out, but seemed more hesitant. It growled and backed up slightly.

"That's the girl," he said. "She likes to pretend she's really tough. She's the smallest."

The little fox still in the den tilted her head at Dari, then bounded out. She put her front paws on Dari's legs, expecting to be picked up as well.

Reese bent down and put his hand into the burrow. He carefully scooped up the remaining fox. "Lazy," he said, and grinned. The little thing yawned widely and stretched.

Once on the ground, the two Dari had been holding began to investigate. They were wobbly, but the girl at least tried to hide it by turning stumbles into bounces. She bounced around Dari. Then she turned and puffed her fur up when she saw Reese, and climbed into Dari's lap. She covered herself with her tail and growled.

"She doesn't like me," Reese observed, with some surprise. He tickled the sleepy kit in his arms, before setting it down by Dari. The other boy immediately pounced and began to wrestle with it.
