My best guess would be .gif. Jpg tends to compress images and mess with the smoothness of an image, especially if there's a gradient or a patch of a single color. Other file formats may be better than .gif, but since I never use them, I couldn't say.

its only Line art, so its black and white, color doesnt matter.

Compression will still dither the picture, regardless of whether it's in color or monochrome. A large patch of black might still get a bit pixelly if saved as a jpg. If you're saving it from a graphics program, however, you may be able to specify the quality of the jpg, which would get around the problem.
