So how about those changes of subject Harvest Moon characters?

I can't understand why everyone on the internet says Popuri looks fat in her dress. She doesn't. @_@;;;

@alex: the ph.d. program cost me nothing (except five years of my life and two years of therapy). emory gave me a full-tuition scholarship and a stipend to live on for four years, and in the fifth year i got external funding. the stipend was barely above poverty line, so that's why i had to live with a roommate and watch my spending, but it was manageable. a lot of ph.d. programs are like that. applicants just need good grades, solid research experience, and good gre scores.
from what i can gather from other academics, ph.d. programs in the sciences (like chemistry) and applied sciences (like engineering) have great funding for their students. ph.d. programs in the humanities (like english, philosophy, etc.) have the least.

I'm not afraid of bugs, I'm afraid of ANTS. In specific. I have nightmares frequently of them swarming me, ever since childhood. One single ant can be squished, yes, but a swarm of them can't. Especially if you accidentally step on a hill or run into a fire ant raft while swimming.
It has nothing to do with being female, either. My boyfriend's afraid of spiders. He did see his friend's brown recluse wound...
The incident with the ants-throwing-ex happened at Topsail Island in one of the Carolinas. Due to a strange but fascinating natural phenomena, millions of ants get washed up on the shore of the islands every once in a while. When it started happening while I was there, I got out of the water immediately and didn't want to swim anymore. I didn't like the idea of hundreds of large, drowning ants clinging to my body with their pincers.
My ex though I was being a wimp, so while I was laying on the beach half-asleep, took a bucketful ant-water (not even touching them himself) and poured it on me.
I was... quite freaked out. He thought he was helping me. From then on I couldn't fully trust him and completely avoided any situation in which he could get a hold of more ants.
If you did the same thing to me, I wouldn't trust you.
Being a geologist, I encounter ants all the time. They usually don't bother me when I'm working, because I observe them from a distance while learning to understand when they're safe and how to avoid them when they aren't.
Being forced into a dangerous confrontation with them is a completely different story.
For people who are honestly fearful for their lives when confronted by their phobias, it's cruel to force them head-first into their fears when there's better alternatives. With a dog who's afraid of people, it's better for them to observe people from a distance and slowly close the gap between them instead of forcing them with a choke-leash to confront one. It takes longer, yes, but people shouldn't use impatience as an excuse to be cruel.
And please don't make your cat unnecessarily wet.

I used the term bugs because I didn't want to make a specific reference to you. I also said girls, because I've honestly never met a male who's afraid of insects, yet just about every woman I know is.
Personally I find phobias to be extremely silly things. Maybe my mind just can't wrap around the concept of a deathly fear toward essentially nothing, but that's just me.
We definitely have different definitions of morals and ethics, and since this is all objectionable on either side as it is, we should probably agree to disagree, since it seems the others are getting a bit unnerved due to fierce debate. domokun
I'm still going to take my cat into a bath though. Just because she's a cat doesn't automatically make her afraid of water. Many cats love water, as the Internet will attest to. If Lady loves it too, all the better. 3nodding

Yes, but I'd really appreciate it if you wouldn't take my phobia to be a "silly thing", as people shouldn't consider other people's physical/mental illnesses/disabilities/disorders as jokes or stupidity.
And sorry, everyone, if this erupted into something uncomfortable.
Yeah, I'm still collecting everyone else's unwanted flowers. I'm really collecting every single kind, but I can only fit one questbar in my sig and I had the most white daisies.

ooh, i finally got my zoombinis cds installed on my computer, and they seem to be working! for some reason, my computer refused to read them before. erm. the cds say they're for players ages 6 and up. but still. i can't wait to start playing them again!
