Man, I'm all about arm bars.

I used to fight in an amateur league, and my record ran at 3 k.o.'s, 16 arm bar submissions, 2 rear naked chokes, 1 ankle lock, 2 t.k.o's, one by liver punch, and the second tap by punching.

I rocked until I got the s**t knocked out of me.

I would like to know exactly what his opponent was thinking getting in any kind of position where he could get Triangle'd in the first round lol.

Unless your cousin did some crazy s**t to set it up, then kudos to him.

A clear indication that Fas doesn't know s**t about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, lol.

In South America they bungie jump out of trees and smash their faces into the ground for fun.

Fas is right, in that getting a triangle choke in the first round is difficult. Most of the time, a fresh fighter is going to be doing too much work from the top to slip the triangle in, let along lock it down. Not to say that it doesn't happen.. but you usually see triangles from the back come in the later rounds when people are a little more tired and less likely to see it coming.

You can also get a triangle while standing or from the top, but the first is ******** hard and likely to get you dropped on your head and the second is a little harder, but still possible. Trying for a standing triangle choke is liable to just give your opponent a free pass into your guard.

I have seen somebody pull off a standing triangle choke from the clinch though. Probably the most impressive thing I've ever seen, because the guy like.. clinches, jumps up, snakes his legs above his opponent's arms and below his own, then cinches it and lets his weight hang off of his opponent's neck so that he pulled the guy down.

Kind of a "What the ******** did I just see?" moment.

That's what I was thinking actually lol. I've also seen guys pull guard into a triangle and it's the craziest s**t. Its a combination of amazing ability and the opponent not being prepared for it/not reacting properly.

Like I said, a first round Triangle is hard because anyone who is paying attention and knows what they're doing (which you probably should if you're going to be a MMA fighter) is never going to give the opponent any room to triangle. If you're on the ground in someone's guard in the first round you really want to just lean on them and pound on them as much as possible, so that they get worn down trying to defend off their back and are too tired to defend in later rounds.

Maybe I just think more paranoid about fights than most people, but if I'm against someone who knows BJJ the last thing I want to do is let them grab hold of me.

So what happened in the fight to result in your cousin getting the triangle? Did his opponent get cocky and think he could just go ape on him, or did your cousin set it up on the ground?

If I weren't a programmer, I would have became either a wrestler or a martial art specialist. But I love video games too much. Oh, and art.

I also nearly became a football/ basketball player. But I don't want to get any permanent injuries.

My cousin is like 6'2'' or 6'1'' and 165-170ish, so he's pretty lanky, kind of like the Diaz brothers.

The guy he was fighting was like 5'7'' and jacked as ******** for that weight class, and apparently popped him pretty good a few times. My cousin knew if he stayed standing he'd probably lose, so he just dropped to the ground. The guy got cocky and jumped in trying to finish the fight because he thought his opponent was nearly KO'd, and my cousin slipped the triangle on him because the dude just came in trying to end the match and didn't see it coming.

So it was a mix of the opponent's overconfidence, and my cousin just reacting properly to the situation. He figured he could find a submission if it went to the ground and standing up wasn't going in his favor, so that's what he did.

That sounds retarded. Who goes to a fight to see some guy drop down in the anti-rape position like some kid getting pulled into a van. That's p***y s**t. Your cousin is a p***y. I'll fight him in real life.

But you're from Canada, and not from Quebec, meaning you can't fight.

Only French Canadians can fight, the crazy, Francophone ********.
