I (very loosely) based a world off of the Minesweeper game. XD It's sort of a futuristic alternate-Earth army story. Here's a snippet:
Dan shivered as he always did when he let his mind touch for too long on the subject of the living mines. They weren't just destructive. He could handle destructive. Hell, he was holding destructive in his hot little hands and had a whole lot more destructiveness strapped to his back. But the mines...they were cruel. Once some poor schmuck got close enough, the thing would burst out of the ground, all tendons and sinew and not enough hide to cover it, and teeth...rows upon rows of teeth in a mouth too large to be efficient. The sentient mines had enough animal instinct to make them useful, but nothing in the world could make them willingly self-destruct. So the explosives strapped to the creature didn't actually go off until the computer chip inside of them had confirmed that the mine had indeed found prey.
Sometimes it took a while.

My longest fanfic was the very first one I ever wrote, and when I started it, I didn't even know that there were other people writing fanfiction. Therefore, I plead ignorance should anyone accuse me of adding yet another smarmy Mary Sue to the already overburdened world of Final Fantasy fanfiction. ^^; Marion seemed to be pretty popular with my site guests, though. Someone consoled me with the idea that even though I had written a Mary Sue, at least I'd written a decent one. *lol*
Meave: ...and the one I wrote was definitely crap. XD Chock full of stereotypes and first-time-writer mistakes. It's so embarassing to read over it so many years later...
Midnight3476: I haven't played any FF games after FFIX, actually. I got such mixed reviews from my friends that I couldn't really work up any enthusiasm over it. ^^; And then I was so! freaking! sick! of the Hero With Amnesia storyline by then. gonk
