I'm with patch here.
The telescoping function would be to save space really. If you're a demon hunter, you need as much space as possible.
Likewise, it would only need a spring and lock function at most. Even then, a spring wouldn't be required, as one could have either a manual pull and a lock, or a gas system. That isn't very many parts, and they would be internal, so the issue of compromising the parts.

So I make do with a lower-tech human variation.

Actually, on the topic of telescoping, I think the main limiter would have been, telescoping spears would be rendered obsolete by better weapons before the technology became available for them to be made. With lighter, tougher materials today it wouldn't be all that unrealistic to have such a tool.

Combisticks are really gay to. The only reason they're good in the AVP universe is because they can be used as a staff weapon that won't cause corrosive blood to spray everywhere.
Predators are dumb though. Xenomorphs are infinitely superior.

Predators are a hunter technologically advanced.
They both have their strengths and they're both pretty cool.
