Jolly is depressed.
Like clinically so, it is said she needs to be on medication.

Jolly feels sad, and it makes her sadder that it's supposed to be a happy day.

Jolly is going to pretend to be happy, so all is well. She doesn't want to be on medication and change.
...Sadly that was once a cure for hysteria and depression before they had medication.
Doctors would give female patients 'physical' treatment to stimulate them and make them happy.
True fact.
But Jolly does not need Kevin's....love injected into her.

Jolly blames it on her loneliness.
She's really lonely, all her friends are more then 140 miles away.
Aw Candy is so sweet, but it's okay, Jolly will get over it, she usually does.
