"Paladin?"

Reyin arched an eyebrow, somewhat caught off guard by the title that accompanied the young man that had chosen to introduce himself first. Reyin had done a lot of hero worship in his time, and he worked under the assumption that paladins were veterans of numerous heroic campaigns.

"Guess I should be honored to work alongside someone of such an esteemed order."

Reyin may have been older by a good six or seven years, but he was still pretty new to the adventuring gig. What he lacked in experience, Reyin made up for it with a whole lot of enthusiasm.

"My lady..oh! Right, sorry. This is Saecia. Luck had it we wound up taking the same train here."

As soon as he finished the introduction, Reyin shifted the strap on his duffel bag, crossing it from his right to his left shoulder while the bag remained up against his right hip. It wasn't the most comfortable of arrangements, but at least the bag wouldn't be slipping from his shoulders while he helped carry Heathers' equipment.

((I apologize for being late, too. Street Fighter 4 has had me occupied.))

With the container in tow, the five of them moved more and more away from the busy marketplace. The path they were taking was still busy with travelers and residents of the great Tyr Donian city. The real city was inside the mountain, waiting for them if they had decided to venture deeper into the marketplace, but instead, they were taking a mountain hike. Share was quiet as they walked, seeming to not have anything to say to them as of yet.

They were going to be walking for a good ten minutes until they finally came to a official rest stop, which was basically a small center where travelers could stop and rest, purchase food, use the bathroom, or any other necessity. They were practically the only ones there save for the dwarven guard, whose thumbs was in his large belt with a pistol at his side and a rifle on his back. There were three paths here: the one they just came from, one that went right, and the third going left, which went higher into the mountains. The right path led more into the civilized areas of Mithril Mountains, so that no one could get lost. The left path, however, was for the more adventurous people. It ended some ways down, allowing for anyone to go freely in any direction, but was also the most risky. You could get lost if you didn't know your way around, in addition to having little no one to protect you if you run into unexpected trouble. That was why there was a sign to inform travelers of this, warning them of the more risky left path.

Share moved off to the side, a little away from the rest stop, motioning for his party to come over.

"Well, looks like it's time to do a little briefing with you guys." His hands rested on his hips, his right eye looking them over each again. "Our destination is a day's walk away. I would have gotten us some transportation, but vehicles don't exactly help out here on this type of terrain. The dwarven town that is close to the mines is called Killit, so we'll go there to replenish our supplies before heading into them. I brought enough rations to last us for a week, waiting for us in my bag of holding here."

His right hand patted the black pouch at his right side. Though it looked only as big as a normal shoulder pouch, it held dimensionally a lot more.

"Now, the road there isn't going to be easy, so I wanted to least forewarn you guys of what we have ahead of us. But first, let's get this container out of your hands."

Share walked over to the metal box, using a key to open the lock. When he opened it, it revealed five pickaxes, each looking like they were bought right out of the store...which they were. Each one weighed about 3 lbs, yet it was odd that the metal box weighed a lot more.

"Each of you take one," he said, pulling out one of the pickaxes and sheathing it onto his back with his backpack.

Aside from the obligatory mumbled acknowledgments and courteous bows to her employer and fellow employees Lu was as silent as a mouse behind Reyin, skittering after the taller man as he helped with the heavy lifting. Attempting to blend in with the mountain scenery as best one could wearing a white and blue jacket, the young girl was about to open her mouth and ask where all the people went before she realized that they'd reached a crossroads and saw the people stationed there.

Dwarves! She'd never met one up close before~

Momentarily ditching her attempts to blend in with the background in her excitement, Lu inched closer to the Dwarf and stared with blatant interest, her blue eyes sparkling with curiosity as Heathers spoke.

They had to do a bit of hiking, their next destination was Killit, they'd starve after a week if they got lost - that much she got while staring at the stocky guardsman as though he was the coolest thing since sliced bread.

Quote:
"Each of you take one," he said, pulling out one of the pickaxes and sheathing it onto his back with his backpack.

Finally pulling away her gaze and looking at what was in the box, the white mage trainee couldn't mask her incredulous stare as she tentatively reached inside the container and pulled out a pickaxe, testing the tool's weight and feel in her smooth hands. It was clear to anyone looking at Lu that she'd never held one in her life, the girl staring at the thing as though it might jump out of her hands and bite her if she swung it wrong. But she'd been hired for some reason... And so, if her employer wanted her to swing the thing and sing hi ho - for the right amount of gold - she'd do it with a smile and a crazy dwarven outfit on, to boot.

Reyin tried to be chatty during the entirety of the trip, and as long as the rest of the party reciprocated he wouldn't shut up. It was just in Reyin's nature, trying to be as friendly as possible without crossing into annoying territory. There wasn't really a lot to talk about over the course of a ten minute hike, but Reyin managed to get in a good bit about his own personal history. How his parents were rich, how his great grandfather was some sort of amazing hero, the kindly old couple that gave him a place to stay in Aekea, and this one time that he nearly broke up a famous crime syndicate.

The last story didn't really reach its conclusion before he was told to set the container down. There was some relief on Reyin's end, as the moment he put the container down he started rotating his arm in its socket, trying to relieve some of the soreness that had gathered there over the course of their little hike.

Once the crate opened up and he noticed what was inside, all Reyin could do was arch an eyebrow.

"That's it? Man...those things are heavy."

(( Ah ha ha ha ha ha... I'm a month late and a dollar short. No excuses this time. ))

Reyin's stories of past adventures certainly made the lengthy hike uphill carrying a heavy metallic container seem like a marginally shorter period of torturous exertion; though it seemed that most of the others in their small group (aside from Heathers himself who would inform them of necessities from time to time) the swordsman was making himself the most interesting member so far. All that Anson could manage to elevate his status from a mere side-character was listen attentively so that Reyin's efforts were not wasted.

After a relatively short but nonetheless arduous journey the expedition leader stopped them at a crossroads and asked for the box to be put down. It was opened, and inside there were found enough pickaxes for each of them. This was a mining expedition after all, so it wasn't unexpected that they would need some way to actually dig once they got in there... still, Anson had thought that they were hired on as assistants and bodyguards for an exploratory mission and not a full-fledged dig.

"That's it? Man...those things are heavy."

With a stiff roll of his shoulder and a momentary shaking-out of the ache in his box-carrying arm, the young paladin stepped in as Heathers told them to do so and took up one of the picks with his other hand. It was heavy for sure, but not unexpectedly so considering what it was... the real problem that stuck out in his mind though was--

"Though not as heavy as this iron box, I'd wager."

Setting his duffel bag upon the ground momentarily, he unzipped it by a few inches and slid the pick shaft-wise into the bag all the way to the head like he was placing it into a carrying-case. Though he wasn't sure that he would like the answer one way or another, with a half-hearted smile and a glance at their one-eyed leader the boy still had to ask.

"Does this box serve another purpose or did we lug it all this way for your dramatic reveal?" For a moment he chuckled softly, then added, "I for one wouldn't complain if we left it to decorate the mountainside."

The eye-patched employer turned his back toward the station as he crouched next to the container. His hand reached inside before pulling out the floor. A fake floor, at that, to reveal another compartment. Within sat what appeared to be dynamite, about twenty sticks of it or so of red explosive fun. He picked up one, keeping it low for the guys to see, but for the guard over yonder not to spot.

"I wouldn't have been able to pass investigation if they saw I had these in here. Where we're going, it's most likely we'll need them."

He put them back into the container. It should be lighter now with the axes out, so they won't have any problems carrying it some more.

"Let's just get this out of view of the authorities a little more before we start to stash them."

Closing the container up, he started his walk toward the left path.

"Well, let's get going. We can't waste the day away."

"Aye aye, cap'm."

Anson laughed a little as he re-shouldered his bags and stooped down low again to grab the handle of the metal box. It definitely was a lot lighter without the picks in it, but a metal box is still a metal box any way you go about it. Lugging it up the rest of the mountainside would be a chore, albeit an easier one than it had been for the last leg of the journey.

"Ugh, man..."

Reyin had managed to wedge his assigned pickaxe in between his longsword's scabbard and his back. It wasn't very comfortable, but Reyin figured it was a temporary solution until he didn't need to carry around the iron box anymore. As Anson prepared to shoulder the load Reyin patted his right bicep, bent down, then grabbed a handle. It was true the thing was lighter now, but with the addition of a small amount of fatigue the box certainly could afforded to shed a few more pounds before Reyin would be happy hauling it another mile or two.

"Alright boss. Lead on."

Fidgeting slightly in her uselessness, Lu debated fiercely with herself about offering to help; the girl's hands buried in her pockets while they clenched and unclenched. She was too weak herself to really help much and their bags would make carrying her own unbearable... But she had to be able to do something!

"Well-!" She faltered, finally looking up and seeing that they'd started walking without her. Letting out a squeak and chasing after the group, Luazia caught up after a few hurried strides and fell behind Reyin, casting cautious, anxious sidelong glances at Anson as she lost her resolve and remained silent.

Share was surprised that this group was very obedient. Then again, these were young so-called mercenaries. They were still fresh to the occupation. They likely thought this was just another humble job to make your earnings. While he wouldn't mind giving them this type of experience, a job that just required some work from them and no other obligations, it was reality that such a dream will never come to be. These kids were going to be tested by the wheels of fate later on. He already knew that much.

"Alright, put it down," he said to them as they were further up the rocky path.

With distance between them and the guard post down there, he could safely open the container, taking out each stick of dynamite. Opening the black pouch at his side, he started to stick each one into it. Despite the capacity of the sticks themselves, the dimensional bag had no problem swallowing up each one. With the container finally cleaned out, he stood to his feet.

"You guys can leave the container here. From this point on, we'll be carrying our feet."

He looked to the shy girl who was keeping near the rear of the group. This had him gaze at each one of the fellows currently in this group.

"Um...if you don't mind, can you three give yourselves an introduction to one another again? This time, I will like for you to also tell your specialties. If we're going to work as a team here, I'll like for each of you to know your strengths and weaknesses. We can already tell the little gal there isn't much muscle."

Anson tugged on his side of the box towards the side of the path that they were traveling on. It wouldn't do any good to leave it sitting in the middle of the road. Once they'd gotten it to a good place to set it down Anson would bend down and lower the box to the ground whenever Reyin was ready to do so and then return to the path, clenching his hand a few times to work out the stiffness in his fingers.

"Of course, sir," replied the boy seriously, reaching up to the bag straps on his left shoulder to hold them in place as he walked a few paces back down the path and then turned back, bowing to the group as a whole.

"Anson Brent, paladin of the Falician church," he said, introducing himself again as Share Heathers (am I remembering this right?) had asked. "As you might have guessed," he continued, pulling on the straps slightly to raise up the bag on his shoulder which had the hilt of a sword poking out the top of it, "I can handle a sword well enough. If this place we're going to really is a collapsed tunnel that trapped some miners years back, there might still be a few down there who didn't take too well to... you know. I can handle that well enough too."

Again he bowed and began to walk back towards the group before stopping suddenly, as if he'd remembered something, and holding out his right hand - palm up.

"Oh," added the boy with a laugh as a sphere appeared above his hand about four inches in diameter and glowing like the sun itself, "and a flashlight. I can be one of those too."

Specialties?

Lu clammed up and stayed quiet as she scrambled for the excuses she was supposed to give, the half truths that Pirsan and Seyumi had grilled into her before she'd been allowed to even leave the grounds of Bright Valley. Her name was based off her middle name and her mother's maiden surname, it wasn't a lie if she said she was a mage, and-

"Anson Brent, paladin of the Falician church,"

Her thoughts were completely derailed as her suspicions were confirmed, her feet catching on the path and nearly bumping her face into Reyin's back.

"A-a-a-ah~" Looking as though she'd seen a ghost as the boy continued his introduction, Lu's blue eyes widened like saucers as she stared unflinchingly at the sphere in his hand. No one told her that another member of the Order was going to be here!

"U-Um!" Squeaking and dropping into a low curtsy as she stared resolutely at the ground, Luazia's nerves got the best of her and the words just tumbled out of her mouth.

"Myname'sLuaziaAllandineandI'maWhiteMageintraining!" Raising her head as soon as she realized that she'd completely futzed up, the girl covered her mouth and laughed nervously, inching closer to Reyin subconsciously as though his presence would be able to take back her lapse in her disguise.

"I mean, call me Saecia! I'm a healer. And a mage in training." Flushing bright red with embarrassment, she bent over into a deep bow, the temple's formal introduction enunciated with the smoothness of drilled experience. "I'll do my best to protect and serve all of you."

... She'd totally blown her cover and she knew it.

Reyin was about ready to pipe up and introduce himself and his skillset immediately following Anson, however the girl he knew as Saecia nearly pushed him off balance, causing him to shoot a quick glance back in her direction to make sure she wasn't being attacked.

Aside from a case of identity crisis, it seemed Saecia, or...Luazillandine, whoever, was fine from a physical standpoint. Once she was done, Reyin reached up and scratched the back of his head.

"Man, I must be bringing the least to the table. As I said earlier, name's Reyin Nova. I can handle a sword okay, but that goes for most things. Guess you could call me a jack of all trades physically."

A shrug of his shoulders and Reyin dropped his hand to his side.

"That's pretty much it, I guess. How about you, Boss?"
PostPosted: Tue Jul 20, 2010 11:57 am

Share scratched his head as he listened to the three introduce themselves. He already knew what they were capable of, which was why he felt confident in their abilities despite their...youth. Man, they were young, unlike him.

"There's not much to know about me that you already don't know," he answered to Reyin in his gruff voice. "I'm a jeweler who has come to the mountains to claim the unclaimed. After this, I'm going to have myself a hefty fortune and you three will be walking away with some full pockets of your own. There ain't anything else to that. Let's get going. We still have a ways to walk."

Turning around, he then began down the rocky slope. Before them was the normal span of mountainous terrain. There was a lot of dips and rises with the further reaches containing the mountains rising higher into the sky. There were a few goats that could be seen on some of the hills, mainly minding their business with eating grass. But for the most part, nothing out of the ordinary.

One hour into their expedition, the sun was often being blocked out by some clouds coming in from the west. The wind was a bit more breezy than usual as the shadows of the overcast streamed across the area. Share would often stare up at the sky, then down to the folded out map in his hands as he kept his eye on the drawn out trail he drew. When they finally reached a hill, down below, they will all suddenly see a small camp of sorts with large tents set up here and there. Smoke rose from a created fireplace down there with some clothes hanging on wires. The camp appeared bigger than a normal little gathering.

"Hm. Wonder who lives there. Well, no use in passing up the opportunity for a little information on the area."

Share then proceeded down to the camp, which was clearly empty from the outside. When he got down below, he spoke out in a loud voice: "Anyone here?"

He stopped and paused, waiting for someone to come out one of the tents. But no one did. This had him move a bit further, finally looking through one of the tents.

"Excuse me..." But no one was in them. Boxes, beds, and other normal living materials were scattered inside each tent, but it seemed like no one was here. The fireplace was still smoking, showing that it was probably not long ago when someone may have ignited it. Recognizable tools that were present were shovels, chisels, and knives. And what appeared to be some animal hide hanging off a chair.
