Eaten? What sort of... Despite not knowing any of the details, there was a growing feeling of... sick... in the pit of his stomach, the back of his mind. Eaten.

He could ask questions here, could ask all manner of things, but that meant... No, that just wasn't important. Not now. Screw Tatsumi, and the coffee. The coon could get grumpy, the coffee could get cold, all that mattered now was a momentary respite.

Still standing by the bed, searching Hisoka's face for some sign of release, he reached forward once more to brush against the boy's skin, only this time allowing fingers to linger on against pale cheek, "Can't get away from it, can you?"

Hisoka shivered slightly at Tsuzuki's touch, unsure why it felt so warm, why it broke through his chill. It wasn't... fair... to the memory of the gone to want to be surrounded by Tsuzuki's gentleness. But at the same time, Hisoka couldn't handle it right now.

Abruptly the kitten wrapped his arms around Tsuzuki, pulling him close and onto the bed, tears rising to those green eyes. Don't let me go right now... I don't want to hear them.

He hated being this weak, this broken... damn empathy...

Thank the heavens for quick recovery time to hugs. No matter how much Tsuzuki might not have expected the sudden need for physical affection from Hisoka, he wasn't the type to let go an opportunity to hold close, even if just for a moment.

He wrapped his arms around his partner, enveloping him as best he could in warmth and that extra emotion that travelled between them, always lay waiting to rise and flow. The unspoken words that were so much safer in silence. Without commitment, without obligation, just promise.

"It's all right." Just say it. Doesn't matter how false it is, how wrong you think you might be. It's the thing to say, the right thing to say. Just hold him, hold him close and whisper as low and sweet as you can.

Hisoka clung to Tsuzuki, trying in vain to swallow the sobs wracking his body. To feel so many souls who just wanted to live snuffed out in a single moment... but this was safe. This was safe...

And right. It would be all right. There was nothing he could do now-- but Tsuzuki made it all right.

For now.

The desire was to stay here. Not to leave. Not to bother with any dumb mission. The obligation--

He was crying.

The desperate little bit of Tsuzuki's work ethic asphyxiated at the sound of Hisoka's sobs.

Damnit--at least whatever it was... the eaten souls...--at least they'd already been eaten, at least it was over, not still... going on... eternal torment. Can't ask him to talk about it, can't... can't just ignore it either. Quiet, soft, be gentle with this... "How? Do you know?"

Forcing himself to calm down a little, Hisoka took a few shuddering breaths. "There's... a spirit... that feeds off others... it was there..." he tried to explain, unable to fully voice what he'd felt, what his heart had seen. "Fire..."

...Okay, weird. That... definitely wasn't something he'd encountered before, not working at Meifu. Unless... a particularly hungry shikigami? But they didn't eat people, didn't eat spirits--cannibal.

"Was there? It's not here anymore?" he asked, keeping his voice low and calm.

"I don't know!" Hisoka groaned. "I can't tell-- there and gone... he's Hao's... I can't figure him out. He blocks me from finding him..." Which he blocked Hisoka from finding who? Even the Empath couldn't tell which he was referring to-- the Spirit or the Shaman.

"You don't need to," Tsuzuki murmured into the boy's hair, pulling him closer. "Not on your own, at least."

And this is not going to happen again. It's personal. There are names. So very , very personal.

Hisoka sighed softly, breathing in Tsuzuki's scent, sweet and filled with that steadiness Hisoka needed so badly right now. "...thank you."

And that was all that needed to be said for now on that matter.

"...you were saying something about work?"

Tsuzuki made a face as he pulled back just enough to look Hisoka in the eye. "Not important," he said seriously, expression as close to stony as it got when he wasn't actually angry. "Really, really not important. Well... might be important, but we don't have to go to the board meeting. I don't actually know if there'll be coffee."

"Let's just... go. Distractions," Hisoka shrugged, leaning against Tsuzuki for another moment. "Besides... I have a feeling that it's about this anyway."

"Yeah. Distraction," Tsuzuki rolled his eyes somewhat sarcastically. Because throwing yourself right into it will make it go away.

Or solve it, which was the hope. Never got anything from being too cautious, he supposed. "Fine, fine, we'll indulge the grump," he teased, "But only this once."

Smiling faintly, the boy pulled himself together and moved towards the door-- after all, it wouldn't do to have something else occur before they got down there.

Well, Tsuzuki should be heading down with Hisoka by now-- it probably took all that time to get the boy out of bed. The Empath probably felt the whole event-- which was precisely why Tatsumi needed that pair to get to work. Something strange was at hand, and Tatsumi wanted to know what it was so they could get back to their own world.

((You know, the funny thing is I really thought I had replied to this. Until I remembered that Gaia went down just as I finished writing the reply. XP ))

As they made their way to the Conference Room (or what was presumed to be the way to the Conference Room), Tsuzuki maintained a closeness he might not have felt prudent at any point of time prior to now. There was just so much to worry about. The shivers and sobs that had wracked the mind and body, the fragile, glass-like breaking lingering on in eyes and lips.

It was like waiting for a tightrope artist to fall.

((Further more, can we just assume they get there? gonk ))
