i saw in an earlier post that guard are cheap and expendable. at 180 points for a troop choice and only five models in 1000pts their not really are they.

Tank Companys rule.
sadly, a tank qualifies as a tank, not a guardsman. A guardsman qualifies as a guardsman, and is cheap and expendable.

Speaking of cheap and expendable soldiers, i'm considering a converted army based on ShinRa of Final Fantasy 7. The basic soldier takes the place of the Guardsman, and the Turks take the place of the hardened veterans, With Palmer, Hojo, Heiddgar, ShinRa, Rufus and Scarlet forming the command group.

Congratulations!

Any tips for beating Eldar?

Ophiuchus: What a wonderful idea! Please, for the love of God, post pictures.
by the way, are you using the red-armored troopers or the blue ones? If memory serves, the blue were the regular army while the reds were the officers.

As many heavy weapons as you can get. Dont focus on moving, because the Eldar will outrun you anyway. Get some rapid-fire weapons on any troops laying about, get some well armored assualt troops guarding your main body of troops, and focus all anti tank fire on the transports before they can drop their load in your midst.

Typical... stare
is that directed towards me?

No, merely remarking upon the situation where the Imperial Guard is again losing due to a sore commander.

Well, not to sound meanish or anything wink , but movement is important to win missions. Even if the enemy outruns you, you still need to move in order to seize objectives. Hehehe, all Guardsmen with lasgun have rapid fire weapons, silly boy. When you are certain that you will face Eldar in assault, slap the xeno-fighters doctrine on those troops! Or just the Hq's, whih ever works best.

If it wasn't for the anti-Imperial Armour banter around here, I would suggest a Leman Russ Exterminator up against Eldar, tooled up for meat grinding. (Twin-linked autocannon, three heavy bolters, heavy stubber and maybe a HK-missile for that lucky pot shot.)

But a standard Guard force with plenty of heavy weapons, at the very least one Chimera with AF squad and a Russ tank should be a good start for facing any opponent.

Not letting people use forge worold or custom tanks is just plain wrong. With the Imperial Gaurd being such a diverse organization its obvious that different variations of tanks and vehciles would appear. It makes no sense to have a whole 2000 point army of straight out of box Leman Russ and Leman Russ Demolisher tank and Chimeras and Hellhounds. Thows some Salamanders or Destroyers in their. Hell let somone have a Bane Blade if the points are even. Its not like by using a differnt variation of tank you will have that much better odds, it still all depends on the way the dice land

you are correct - blue for Marine/ MPs and vehicle crews, red for captains, vehicle crew captains and elite soldiers, tan-brown for underwater MP's... and then the "blue suits" turks.

My question was more along the line of "are the red officers going to simply be red versions of the troopers, or are you going to convert their caps and long coats as well?" Sorry If I wasn't clear.

officers in FF didn't have long coats, so they'll just be red versions of the blue guy. 3nodding It won't be easy though - Cadians AND Catachans don't match up very well - but the Cadians are the closest.
