Peep_erz sugarnew182 Bluedragon_07 i hate marching, but i play bassoon for parades and clarinet for field, i want to continue bassoon, but in a concert band, not marching Thats weird. We were never allowed to march bassoon in parades (thankfully) though in middle school we did march them on the field... but I guess that is because we didnt really march and play. I love marching my mello... I wish you liked marching. we used to joke about marching bassoon. you actually did it?!??! thats really dangerous!

Yay! I finally get to meet some competent and intelligent bassoonists! The only one my school has is some retard who thinks he knows all about double reeds, when he can hardly even play his own.
Hmmm... Why does no one else play bagpipes? I mean, yeah, playing Oboe( Me!) and bassoons and what not is cool, but one bagpipes I can play 4 double reeds at a time! Imagine the awesomeness!

M e r r i c k *looks above her* Mmm, bassoonnage.... I play oboe as my main instrument. I march a different instrument every year so, so far I've played clarinet, baritone, bass drum, and next year I plan to go our for drum major. 3nodding You rock. I play oboe too, and clarinet, and I would so love to play drums in marching band next year. Master Ulthar musette, oboe, oboe d'amore, english horn, bass oboe, contrabass oboe! And if all them got together, we could probably conquer to world by being obnoxious. Ah, yes! Double-reed players ( heart ) conquering the world through obnoxiousness... sounds entirely possible. 3nodding

rose-fire150 I'm the only bassoon in my school. (and surrounding schools) sad Wow... I played alongside 4 others the first semester of last year, and 3 others the second semester... We have never had a shortage of bassoonists around here, that's one thing for sure.

I love playing the Oboe. I've been playing for three years. The guy at the instrument tryouts said I was a natural for double reed instruments. He said I would be better at playing the Bassoon, but I had my heart set on the Oboe! I'm having a lot of trouble memorizing the fingerings for the highest notes though. Next year I'll have to play the Sax. Are the fingerings very different? I would also like to learn the other kinds of double reed instruments, but our band only has Oboe and Bassoon. Also, I'm the only Oboe player in my band!

DoktorPhil Starsabre I would also like to learn the other kinds of double reed instruments, but our band only has Oboe and Bassoon. Also, I'm the only Oboe player in my band! BAGPIPES!!!!!! Sorry. I'm the only oboe in my band too! I've been the only bassoon in my band since I started playing (the last one graduated 2 years before I got to high school). So imagine my excitement at knowing that there will be a freshman bassoon player next year, my last year of high school. At my high school, the 8th graders play at graduation to make up for the seniors who are graduating. I have never seen a more apethetic player IN MY LIFE. gonk He didn't want to be there, which is understandable because no one wants to be there, but he didn't even seem to care about his sound or anything. I offered to teach him the low Bb for our warm-up, he wasn't interested. Then, during the speeches, he rested his bell on the ground. eek I would have told him to lay it across his lap or put it all the way on the ground, but I didn't want to seem like a bassoon-nazi. -.- Now I know he's just a freshman, but I was expecting a lot better. I was expecting a challenge. crying

OBOE!!! That's what I play! 3nodding Oh, and since oboe's not marching instrument, I play the xylophone in the pit section. Is oboe a really uncommon instrument, because I'm the only oboe. All the other's graduated... crying

JgirlJ I just started playing the bassoon yesterday and I was wondering if it's normal for my musles to hurt a little bit. I'm a tiny person, i'm only a couple inches taller than the bassoon confused gonk Also is there anything I should know to help me play better and to get use to it or something like that. I played the clarinet first and I think the embouchure is the same right? (Kind of, you have to loosen your lips for playing low notes, right...?) ninja It is normal for your muscles to hurt a little. i am 4-5 inches taller than my bassoon. you are right about loosening your lips to go lower, and tighten them alot to get high notes. i too have just started playing on bassoon last wednesday. i also have to practice two instruments because my band teacher is going to make oboe and bassoon music for our concerts. good luck!=3

This year I'm in the pit because of the piano part that "no one else can play". I'm slightly depressed that I'm not marching this year. -.-
