She was already starting to hate the fact that she'd picked up that damn horn. She could feel it in every step Dawson took, and she wanted to do anything in her power to return him to his normal, joyful self. Her normal set of distractions weren't allowed this time around, and she found herself sorely lacking in any other method. When they returned, and no guardian stood in their way, she wrapped her arms around his stomach and initiated a warm, uncharacteristically tender hug. "Do you want to know something, Sir Grace?" She murmured up quietly, blowing her bangs out of her face so she could look at him. "There's no one else in the world I would put this much effort out for. I hope you know that."

He was so taken aback by the fact that Maebe was hugging him that he didn't know how to react at first. Dawson knew he had been obvious, but hadn't realized it would get him this kind of reaction. (Maybe he needed to do that more often.) The gentle nature of it was what struck him most, and he felt twice over ashamed at his behavior as a result.
Making a sheepish noise, he wrapped his arms around her and only gave a small squeeze as opposed to his usual bearish death grips. "I know, honeybunch," Dawson murmured back. "I know. Wish I could say thanks enough somehow. I just..." He huffed a sigh partially against her hair. "Sawry. I'ma quit actin' like a big baby, promise."

"Don't." She demanded, almost upset at the notion. "You can be a big baby all you want with me. I love you just the way you are." And since that was way, way too sappy for her tastes, she immediately pulled away from the hug she herself had caused, shook in place, and made several faces of disdain. "God, now I'm all cootied. Come on." She grumbled, dragging him forward by the hand.

"I jus' wanna get my thing already, y'know? That so hard t'ask?" he whined as their hands swung a little. "Don' mean I should rain on yer parade, though. Bet yer thing does somethin' fancy. We gonna test 'em out once we got the stuff, yeah?"
But not even that exciting thought was enough to get Dawson to drive straight through the area like last time.

She couldn't fault him for that. If she'd had the patience to find an artifact she actually liked, and work this hard for it - pigs would have been flying across the sky the entire way there, for one. But she would have felt impatient seeing someone else pick something up randomly on the way, too. She tried not to giggle when she heard him screaming about being a big baby, across the way, and the vines and muck made it easy. There was no giggling once they were done with her.

But the sticky mud that pulled her down and tried to keep her from her goal was not given such an excuse, so when she finally arrived at the other end, she stomped around angrily and pouted. "Well, then, so am I." She muttered, her footfalls stomping like a childish hissy fit. "Because this place suuuucks."

He was allowed a breather as he entered the final obstacle course, right before the boar started to chase him. Dawson was barely able to keep ahead at this point, nearly stumbling over himself as he ran.
