"Ah.... you're a quick learner," Miyuki murmured thoughtfully.
It sounded like Andarien was better with the written form rather than the verbal. Miyuki could learn written, but they hadn't stayed anywhere long enough for her to gain a large proficiency in it. Though she had learned a bit of the runes from Caras Galadhon, but looking at the menu, not enough to really be able to navigate the menu with confidence.

Andarien shrugged. "Learning the scripts is the easy part, and we were on the ship and in Caras Galadhon for a long time. You just have to practice is all."
"Yes, but it is more difficult for some people than for others," Lancaeriel couldn't help but laugh. "Remember how difficult it was for you to learn languages at first? You were so jealous of Miyuki and the others!"
Andarien blushed. "Ah ... right."
"So what are they offering anyways?" Wren grinned, her blue eyes sparkling brightly.
Andarien turned his eyes back to the menu and began to read it to the others. There was an assortment of sandwiches and vegetables, and for meat there was chicken, beef and venison, as roasts or on sandwiches. There was also a variety of drinks, varying from mead to cider to milk to wine, ale and beer.

There was quite a lot of choice, though no different than the amount of choice one would find in Gaia, so it wasn't like it was unusual.
"Hmm...." Miyuki looked thoughtful, "A sandwich and cider sounds good."
Like her mother, she wasn't really into most alcoholic drinks, they always had that aftertaste that was strange to her. As long as it wasn't hard cider (which also had alcohol in it) she wouldn't mind. Though personally, she was more of a tea person.
"Just thinking of what kind, there's a lot."

"That's true," Andarien agreed.
"I'll take the venison, lightly done, with potatoes and vegetables," Lancaeriel decided almost on the spot. "A nice red wine, if they have it, though I'll take white if they don't."
"Chicken sandwich for me," Wren murmured. "Just the sandwich. And milk. It's been a while since I've had that."
Andarien nodded and looked at Miyuki again. "Made up your mind yet?" he asked her.

Miyuki thought about it a bit more, "I'll have a roast beef sandwich with cider."
It sounded like a good choice, and she did like roast beef.
"What about you?"

Andarien had to think a moment longer before he made his decision.
"Well ... I kind of want to keep going on my project before I go to sleep," he murmured thoughtfully, "so ... I think I'll have a whole dinner. Roast beef with baked potato and veggies ... maybe extra veggies ... with a bun ... and mead to drink."
Mead had always been his favourite drink, and though he knew its recipe varied from place to place, it was what he always asked for, without fail, when it was available.

Miyuki was surprised that her brother was still awake enough to want to do that, until she remembered that he did seem to have an easier time sleeping despite the wind whistling past them and the movement of a flying dragon.
"Sounds good," she nodded.
Then she looked to see if they could flag down a waiter or waitress.

There was no need for them to flag anyone down, as their waiter was already on his way back to them, and after Andarien gave their order, the man nodded politely and left again.
Once he was gone, Wren looked at Andarien curiously. "Aren't you tired?" she asked him.
Andarien shrugged. "Yeah, a bit, but I got this idea while we were flying, and I want to see if it will work," he explained. "I'll make sure to go to bed at a good time. I know I'm the only one here who knows the language, and I did promise everyone I'd be there to help them ..."
"Maybe you should let Eon and Zeus out while you're working," Lancaeriel teased the youth. "That way you'll be certain to go to bed on time."
"Hey," Andarien protested, blushing. "That's not fair."

"What kind of idea?" Miyuki asked.
The fact that Andarien could be inspired while they flew, she knew it had to be something interesting.

"Well, seeing as we spent so much time on Uruloki, I got kind of bored at first," Andarien admitted. "Zeus and Eon and Ponydash couldn't come out because we were flying, and it was kind of hard to talk to people, and watching the landscape ... well, it was all kind of the same after a while. So I ended up watching Uruloki, watching how he moved as he flew. And then I started thinking about the mechanics of it ... so ... then I wondered if I could copy his movements and design something that might fly."
He shrugged. "I know I don't have the proper parts for it at the moment, but if I can design them, and if we're going to be here a while, and if I can find a place where I can work, a forge I can use, then I'm sure I can make them."

Something that could fly, now there was an interesting thought. She wondered what Shiro had to say about something like that.
"That sounds neat," Miyuki had to agree.
She wasn't sure what he would do with it afterwards, but it still sounded neat.

"That's a lot of ifs," Wren commented doubtfully.
Andarien shrugged. "Well, it's better than having no idea what to do," he said simply. "I mean, not like I wouldn't have anything else to do ... Kaito's still going to be giving me lessons once a few more people know the language here, and I have to practice my archery ..."
Wren chuckled. "Yes, that's a good point," she conceded. "I'd like to learn more about this place and the people here, if I can."
Lancaeriel simply smiled. She assumed that what she planned to do would be obvious - at least for the first while that they were there.
"And what about you, Miyuki?" she asked her friend. "Is there anything you hope to accomplish while we are here?"

Miyuki looked thoughtful, "Preservation seals... sure the bags hold a lot, but things can still degrade overtime, that's why we don't use them to carry perishable food, spices, or any medicine that can degrade."
She tilted her head a bit and then added thoughtfully.
"I've had that in the back of my head since I was little, but I kept forgetting until now. Not quite useful for travel, I mean, it could make supplies last longer but you don't want to carry supplies for a whole long trip, but it could be useful for trade."

"Like a state of stasis?" Lancaeriel asked curiously, the scholar in her growing more awake. "Something like what you did for the Pokemon, and the balls? Or is that different still?"
She still wasn't completely aware of what Miyuki had done with the Pokeballs; while she had offered advice, she had been distracted with her own things, and hadn't really taken the time to closely examine the runes Miyuki had ended up using.

Miyuki nodded, "Yes, it would probably have to be etched onto whatever is containing the item, but that is the general idea."
It wasn't hard to notice that fruits and veggies from place to place was different. Sure, places that had open trade with other countries could import saplings or seeds, but if the environment wasn't right then that plant wouldn't grow anyways. This meant, beyond the most hardy of plants, each region had spices, herbs and plants that were different.
"Originally," she admitted, "I thought of it as a child because we had to eat our perishable foods soon, and it was sad to me to not have a fruit I was familiar with for a long time. Now though, I'm thinking in more... practical terms."
Maybe it was small things she remembered as a kid growing up, or maybe it was because traveling a long there was always concern about trade, or maybe she thinking slowly about what she would do as she grow older, but Miyuki saw a real world application to that kind of rune array.
