@Ribbin: I don't think Manaphy and Celebi are required for the game to make NPCs use the "PokeDex completed" messages. It's a monkey with brocolli on it's head...And it still looks better than half of 3rd gen XD
I want to say something, but I like you Owwin. :3

I just don't understand the hate towards Gen III. It's my favorite pretty much because it was the first Pokemon game, well no, first game I ever bought with my own money. Not gift money or s**t like that. That was pure saved allowance money, spent well. I waited two months to get that game. xD

Let's not forget it's so far got the most colorful region. It was also the most easily navigated, easiest to beat (and break) and let's also not forget that for many, it didn't live up to Generation 2.

I didn't like Gen 3 because most of the Pokemon were ugly as hell, or either not worth training.
Flygon, Sceptile, and Sableye to an extent.
Another reason in Emerald in particular was that you could capture Rayquaza before the seventh gym at level 70. If you taught it Thunderbolt, Dragon Claw, Brick Break, and one final move, it was unbeatable.
I also didn't feel as good playing it as I did with Crystal, Gold, Red, and Yellow.
Then there was Norman. And ********' Steven. If I could shake my fist any angrier at them, I would.
R/S/E also spawned Spinda, one of my most disliked Pokemon. It has a good moveset, shitty stats, and a shitty look. Luvdisc also falls into this category, except Luvdisc is about as useful as a punch to your crotch.
Wynaut? Why the hell not? They needed Pokedex filler, and Wobbuffet was already a big enough pain as it was, now they gave it ENCORE? s**t!
And after everything, there was the mad dash to complete the Pokedex to get a Johto starter.

Honestly, everyone's like "GSC IS THE BEST OMGLOLOLOLOL ITS THE BEST CAUSE IM OLDSCHOOL AND AWESOME" Not saying this about you, Ota, just making a point.
I didn't like Gen 2 that much, and I think Gen 3 is one of my favorites. Yeah, Gen 3 Has Spinda and Luvdisc. Luvdisc, is kinda useful in the getting Heart Scales, and Spinda is.... about as useful as Dunsparce, no? Dunsparce, Unown, The only other pokemon in the game to learn Splash... Hopip.
Although I do give them Espeon and Shuckle.
Gen 3 is probably my favorite. I never was a big fan of IV, but 3, for sure. Breloom, Gardevoir, Ninjask, Sableye, Solrock, ZANGOOSE AND SEVIPER, Absol...

D: I think Gen 3 might actually be my favorite. I love the 16 gym part of gen 2, which makes sense why everyone loves it, but pokemon wise, I like 3 better.

I find that Gen II kinda failed if it needed Kanto just to keep any interest in it.
Gen III was unfulfilled to people because it didn't include older regions, or most of the older Pokemon. Which wasn't a bad thing. They tried to make a new experience, similar to when you first picked up Pokemon. It never included that nostalgia that people wanted when playing Pokemon. To play the same game they played as a child. s**t changed, and people didn't like that. Understandable, you wouldn't what things that you loved as a child to change.
The thing is, you grew up in the time between Gen II and Gen III. I mean, how ******** awesome was gen one and two? Pretty ******** awesome, right?
How old you were when they came out? Around eight to ten or somewhere near that. What wasn't amazing at that age? You expectations grew, but Game Freak is still making games to target that age group you grew out of.
Maybe not anymore. They're adding in Kanji to Black and White. They don't really do that, so that children can play the games. I'm assuming Gen V is going to be more mature, when compared to the last four generations, so not by much.

I played a bit of it on a japanese rom, but never beat it, obviously. R/S/E is when my brother started getting into the games and he got me back into them. So I have super great memories of those games too. I can kind of share the excitement you got when you bough it. =)

Kanto was first. It started it all. It is the basis for comparison.
Honestly it goes like this for me. Jhoto has my favorite terrain, villains (Same as Kanto XD), gym leaders, pokemon designs, navigation, little side stories like red gyarados, the bug catching contest. All that crap.
Hoenn added contests and pokemon abilities. That is badass. Gameplay wise, fantastic. Really changed how it was played.
Sinnoh. The dress up part of contests pissed me off. It had bad stuff and good stuff. Really liked the underground though, that was cool.
I think they all have good parts. It is just that Jhoto is my favorite. Not because it is old school, just because I prefer it. I will not justify why I like it more. I like it more because it was the most pleasing to play to me. Plain and simple. The series only gets better as it goes on. The more the merrier etc. I just like gen 2 the best.

Gen 2 still gave me stuff I like. Espeon, Umbreon, Forretress, Magnemite's Steel Typing, and Jasmine.
The addition of Shinies is worth noting too, at least it would be if I ever GOT ONE.
I take that back. I got a Shiny Spinarak looooong ago when Gold first came out. Not that it was any use.
And the elongated and continued story from Gen 1 was appreciated.
But other than that, it just didn't have enough "new" for me.
Spinda wasn't meant to be useful. It's the Gen 3 equivalent of Unown; for collection. To this day, it's still the ultimate trophy Pokemon, with exactly 8,589,934,592 different appearances.
LuvDisc's sole purpose was to provide Heart Scales.
And my Torkoal takes offense to being called ugly! D<
