I have what may at first seem like a weird request, haha.

Okay, so, as you may or may not know, guilds are horribly out of date. One such example is the limit on how many topics can show up on any forum/sub-forum of a guild.

For example, the KH RP forum of this guild is full. You can still create new topics, but once a new topic is created that pushes the last topic on the bottom of the page on to "page 2". When you click on "page 2", it won't lead you to past topics, it will lead you to a screen saying it's empty.

Basically, the last topic on a full forum/sub-forum page goes into oblivion when a new topic is created. It dies. It's dead. You won't ever see it again.

I'm planning on creating a new RP eventually, which will take up about three new topics (or however many I need). This will murder the topics on the bottom of the page. So my question is, is it possible to have topics on the bottom of the page moved? They can't be moved to the memorial forum, 'cause that place is full, too, and the last topics in that forum would then be cast into oblivion. But, like, could a new guild be created, and old topics put into that? Or does anyone care about the old topics? Can they safely disappear into oblivion without anyone caring?

Sorry for the late response! I saw your first post and was thinking about it aaaand got distracted and completely forgot.

It's... a viable concern. I'm trying to think of possibilities, but you're right, they do need to be moved for fear of deletion.

Of course, it might be that the other topics on those pages are actually elsewhere to begin with--maybe they were purged, maybe they were swept up in the Deletion, or maybe they were moved to the Memorial Forum. Regardless, there's the possibility that maybe the KH Sub-Forum is holding all those empty pages because threads were, at one point, there.

I'm going to experiment a bit by moving exceptionally old OoC threads into the KH forum and see what happens--the OoC forum has three whole pages for some reason, so we'll see.

Okay, and done.

The KH Sub-Forum is not full--in fact, it has fourteen open spots before it moves onto page 2. Further, page 2 can actually exist! When I finally filled up the first page, the two extra topics I put into the sub-forum actually show up on page 2.

So, at the very least, you have room for your RP, and even after, we know we can at least move into pages 2 and hopefully 3 without issue.

There does, however, seem to be a hard limit of 3 pages--after putting one of the old threads back into the Chatterbox, it simply pushed an older thread onto 'page 4', which is inaccessible--

So, I was looking at the urls for the Chatterbox pages, and lo and behold, easy enough pattern to spot:

Page 1: http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewforum.php?f=136545&start=0

Page 2: http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewforum.php?f=136545&start=40

Page 3: http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewforum.php?f=136545&start=80

So, I simply replaced that last number (0, 40, 80) with the next multiple up: 120. And lo, what would be

Page 4: http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewforum.php?f=136545&start=120

Interestingly enough, you can actually replace that last number with any number, as long as that number of threads exists. I tried 60--and it gave me a page of threads that started with the bottom half of page 2 (60-80) and the top half of page 3 (81-100).

So I thought, that must mean each page holds 40 threads, right?

ALSO incorrect.

Count on the first page--that Chatterbox has 44 threads... 4 stickies, and 40 normal. But every page after has 40 normal threads. So, do stickies and announcements not count?

Did a bit of counting on the KH Sub-Forum, and yep, turns out that's true--Stickies and Announcements do not count toward a page's maximum of 40 threads.

Really, this is such a wonky system, but at least we have workarounds.

Side note: Just above the links to each page, you'll see arrows with Y, M, and D--you probably guessed that means jump back a year, a month, or day. Lo and behold, that also works. I jumped back a couple years, and had three pages of OoC chatter (still hard capped at 3 pages...), but the 'top' post was one that hadn't seen the light of day for years.

Long story short? Don't worry about it. I'll just have to start posting links to the 'missing' pages if we hit a limit.

Sounds like Gaia is breaking. Shame they only spend time on items now.
