You know the more aggressive you guys get the happier I'll be. War is the ultimate in disposable produce. You buy a ship for 4 billion credits and loose it in a fifteen minute engagement, then you buy another...

KDY ships fighting and destroying KDY ships in a war is the ultimate in profit mongering for a military manufacturer. I'm replacing both sides losses, so no matter who wins... I win.

With the republic near broke, and a war happy Confederate leader, I wonder if Kuat realized that sooner or later, they're gonna get ganked.

@ Nelo- I actually liked her books, though I only read the first one. Can't think of the name, but a guy and girl run away from the society, and stumble upon an old 20th century mansion

@ Stellar- That's when you program back-up codes into all the ships so that when the time comes, you turn our fleets against us and conquer the galaxy

@ Cale- Alright. Just got to find the Suncrusher.

With the way Stellar's been going on, clearly he hasn't.

What's to get? neutral You said blow it up. There's only so many ways I can do it, between getting my hands on a super weapon, or bringing a massive fleet over and glassing the planet.

@ Nelo- I wouldn't say I'm war happy, otherwise I'd be fighting the Hydians and Perlmians too. my fight's with the Republic

Well, the issue is that the republic has lost most of it's income. It doesn't have the planets, the banks, and not even the trade routes. It can't afford to really do anything but defend, much less replace it's losses or going on the offensive.

By trying to profit off the war, he's effectively making it end that much faster, which is kind of funny. He'll no longer have a competitive market and be shafted straight into a monopsony just like he had in the republic. At best, he supplies a new empire. At worst, he's back to ANH era production levels...

You mean like the one you have?

You have the banking clan and the trade federation backing your fleets, EK. Just because you command the military doesn't mean you'd be the sole person who determines what campaigns to run.

The Confederacy, with it's conquest of the republic, would demand to take up the wealth that the trade routes were having. Just because you don't have a vendetta against them, you do have a job to do...

I know that sooner or later the Confederacy is going to turn its guns on me, and that the Republic has lost a large part of their income. But they still have the biggest goldmine of them all, population derived taxes on the Core Worlds. That is the one part of the Republic's income that remains untouched by the war, and if you think back to the Clone Wars they didn't have the trade routes or banks then either. The war was funded by taxing the Core Worlds to provide for the Republic's defense.

While that is true, the republic can't just tax money that isn't there. The Core may be rich, but a lot of the cash flow has been altered; trade goes through massive fees now that borders do exist, something which didn't exist nearly as strictly as it was when everyone was under the same order of government. The deflation of the credit will make most of the rich people to start investing in stronger currencies too.

The republic is a quiche ready to be popped.

You could put tariffs up to profit from the borders. Since the core is the biggest market in the Galaxy the trade route alliances would have no choice but to grin and bear it.

EDIT: I just did a rough calculation of the tax income for the world of Coruscant by itself. Assuming an average hourly wage of 3 1/2 credits and a 15% tax rate Coruscant has an income of over 500 trillion credits a year, roughly equal to the amount that the Confederacy had in the bank before making the Kuat deal. Considering most sources make it so that most Core Worlds have a population comparable to Coruscant the Republic still has sufficient income to place as large a military order as it wants.
