"Where do you think she'll go?" Lin asked curiously, "To a place with a big library?"
Maybe help look after one? Or maybe scholar some big city? That was always possible.

"Or just travel and see what she can learn through traveling," Ulrich shrugged. "Though I would imagine that if she did that she wouldn't be traveling for long. She's already quite a lovely young lady, I imagine that once she's grown she might have all manner of suitors after her."
He chuckled. "But that's when the fun begins for me."

"How can having suitors be fun?" Lin asked.
Then she realized she probably should have asked the other quesiton that would have brought it into context. She made a funny face, it made sense since Seconds didn't understand the term suitors in pural. Besides, more bluntly put it they were potential mates.
"What are suitors?"

Ulrich chuckled softly at Lin's first question, but he roared with laughter at her second.
"Of course you wouldn't understand the fun if you don't even understand the concept of a suitor," he laughed. "A suitor is a man who is trying to court a woman, in hopes that she will marry him. And I find them quite fun because I get to tease them and ask many many questions and make them very uncomfortable."
Which, as he had already shown, gave him great pleasure.

A light went off in her head, well that made perfect sense now. Though she couldn't imagine more than one person going after the same woman. How odd, she thought to herself, that anyone would make a real effort to marry like that.
She suddenly had been hit by an inspirational thought, did Elrohir and Daeron had fun with Pen?
"For the record, Pen isn't a suitor he gets whacked too many times for that."

Ulrich's eyes sparkled as he looked down at Lin.
"Really?" he asked curiously. "This sounds promising. Tell me more about this. I want to know everything. How they act together, what they do, what they say, how they look at each other ... everything."
He chuckled. "And especially why she whacks him."

If Lin realized the implications of what Ulrich was asking, she probably would have been worried. Unfortunately for Pen... and fortunately for Ulrich, Lin had no idea, she thought it was curious. Not to mention Ulrich was, potentially another person whom she could ask the curious nature of people behaviour.
"Well... the whacking is pretty obvious, I mean... if the person next to me was tapping his head while I was talking to someone, I'd whack him too," she realized he probably didn't know about Lothiriel's gift if he didn't know her, "You see... it's always the same... Lothiriel will say something that her gift shows her... like.. she probably knows you're coming home this minute, and she accidently tells someone, and Pen beside her is tapping his head, because of course she sees it in her head... but she can also see what he does in her head too... so without looking or stop talking she whacks him upside the head."
She paused for a moment.
"Curiously, she can't tell if he's mouthing words beside her, I found this out because he was doing this once, and I told him he shouldn't be doing that... so she gave him the look," she tried to minick it, but with Lin's eyes didn't work so well, "He told her that if she kept looking at him like that he was going to have to kiss her."

"She said she would cut off his manhood if she tried," Lin stated like it was a normal thing.
Granted, she still did not understand the concept, having not asked Miyu. Not that Miyu probably understood seeing as the manhood she was only aware as... the thing that goes there.
"If she did, what would that make Pen?"

Ulrich just about choked, trying not to laugh.
"Um," he coughed, "a gelding?"
And then he couldn't help it, he burst into uncontrollable laughter, so much that the horse's ears flickered back in annoyance.
"Seriously though," Ulrich grinned at Lin finally, "he would be what's called a eunuch. Never able to sire children, never able to have a wife ..."
Or to be more technical, sleep with her, but well Lin was Lin after all.
"And there would be many who would consider him to be ... well, not a man, but not a woman, so more ... a thing, rather than a person."

"Ah!"
It was like a lightbulb went off in her head, and she smiled as if she figured out some sort of secret.
"So that's why he was so nervous and stuff, I thought it was just because it was very painful.. well.. from what she made it sound like it would be very painful, but even the boys were nervous for him. It wouldn't be nice to be considered a thing instead of a person."

Ulrich chuckled again. Lin was, after all, Lin, and of course she would see that as the worst bit. Well, she was after all a child, and a child could not be expected to understand - shouldn't, actually.
Well, he would leave it at that.
"We're nearly there," he murmured softly, changing the subject. "Before I go meeting people, I should take the building supplies to Adonai and Shael. They're anxious to finish, and I don't want to break the glass."

Lin nodded, "Right, it would be bad if those broke, and the house is almost done. I think Ryu has been helping too while Feng has been trying to attrach Adonjah.. .but.... I think if he had to be stuck in a room with one of them.. it would be Ryu."
Sort of, neither twin had really managed it.

Ulrich nodded, thoughtfully this time instead of in amusement.
"Well, if they can just convince him to stay in the same room as them," he murmured softly, "it will be quite something. He won't go anywhere near anyone except Aliya and Amdir."
And Tao of course but Tao wasn't a person.

Which was normal for Feng... and the poor mermaid was use to the children liking her.
