Elros mused for a moment about how best to answer that question.
"Well," he murmured finally, heading back towards the ranch house, "I suppose it's one of those things that you wouldn't really understand until you were older."
Ulrich for example thought that Hamdir was far too nice with Aliya ... despite the fact that he wasn't really flirting. The appearance of it was what mattered.
It was just a good thing Aliya was so dense.

Lin thought about it, as in seriously thought about it.
"Oh... it's one of those questions, I seem to be finding those questions a lot today," Lin replied back.
Though when it came to the issue of Halmir, it was a topic that her parents had always deferred until she was older.

"Well it's your first day in a new place, where there is no one but adults," Elros pointed out. "It's only natural. Don't you worry, the day will come soon enough when you'll be old enough to understand all of it."
And he smiled at her reassuringly.

"The most annoying thing about grown ups saying that, is that you can't say that it won't be soon enough," Lin replied back.
Since she was very much aware that her siblings and her grew unusually fast. After all her Mommy was twenty something people said, and that it took that many years to become an adult.

"Well, think about all of the things that you can learn about now," Elros pointed out. "After all, the world is still open to you ... just slightly restricted. Now, I have most of the rest of the day free, so I can do things with you ... is there anywhere you want to go or anything you want to see?"

"Can I see the horses? I can't see them by myself because I'm too small," Lin replied back.
Since she wasn't allowed to wander anywhere near the stable, since horses were skittish enough without a little Second running about.

Elros smiled again, very faintly. "As you wish," he murmured, changing direction accordingly. "But you must promise me that you will stay still on my shoulder, and if you do move, then not very quickly, all right?"
Some of the horses after all would be fine, but others ... not so much.

Lin nodded, "Okay," she agreed to that.
After all she was getting to see them, and that was not something she got to do everyday.

"Have you been around any horses before?" Elros asked Lin curiously as he made their way towards the pasture. "Or is this your first time?"

"I've never seen a horse before," Lin replied matter of factly, "I've seen a lot, and lot of animals, but I've never seen a horse."
If she had really thought about it, there wasn't a pet among the Winters that was normal. They were all.. odd looking, compared to the standard.
"I've seen bunnies and kitties, even though I don't think they're the usual bunnies and kitties. And I've seen a Kirin, and a birdie, and a doggie, and fish, and a dustling...."

"Well," Elros pointed out, "usual is what you're used to. What is normal for me might not be normal for you, or vice versa. After all, I'm sure that in the world you are from, you are considered quite normal - but here, you are not."

"Because I'm so small?" Lin knew the answer to that question.
She smiled at Elros, because she thought it was funny. After all she was use to small people, and not big people like the elves.

Elros chuckled softly.
"Indeed," he agreed, his icy eyes sparkling brightly with amusement, "though for many other reasons as well. For instance, though both you and your father are human, I would be very surprised if you are the same kind of human. Am I correct in assuming that you are not?"

Lin nodded, 'Yup yup, Daddy came from a person, I came from a vase."
Which summed it up so nicely for Lin, since she had never seen pictures of her father when he was small.

Elros turned his head to look at Lin as he walked, his eyes half-lidded with skepticism.
"I see," he said softly, his tone clearly indicating that he didn't.
