"I guess so," Reese agreed. He studied Lori for a long moment, before frowning. "I like destroying their foundations, he protested. "They shouldn't even be here. I don't want them here. I've tried scaring them away. And I've tried making the forest appear as dangerous as possible. I don't know why they think money is most important."

"Money rules the human world," Lori admitted with a little sigh. He saw it happen every day. Hell, he was a part of it. He drew a salary.
"They think they're alright to be here. They think it's their land now. It's obviously not, but humanity stopped listening to the laws of nature a long, long time ago. If we had known you were here, we could have deemed this land protected years ago. Now it's just going to take a bit more work, but it's completely possible."

Reese frowned. "It's mine," he argued. "Humans can't be allowed to take whatever they want. Someone needs to set them straight. Go "this is the guardian Reese's land, if you leave he'll let you live". " He fell silent, seemingly listening to something.
"Come on," he said. "We should go."

"They'd just think I was crazy," Lori said, "and if they knew what you were they'd try to capture you and experiment on you, not that cutting your trees down isn't bad as it i--"
When in the Guardian's forest, trust what the guardian says about needing to move.
"Alright." He followed Reese carefully, not wanting to accidentally squish anything.

"I don't understand why humans spend their lives killing things," the guardian tsked. "We're lucky they're short."
They walked a ways away, before Reese turned to look at Lori. His expression was serious. "They're moving in further. But I don't think they're doing anything. I can't..." He closed his eyes and listened, his frown growing. "Young ones."

"Mm," Lori agreed. "What, children or teenagers? If they're trespassing the developers should stop them." He pushed his mouth over to one side. "We could go stop them if they're up to something. Knowing teenagers there's a fifty percent chance something might end up on fire."

"Teenagers," Reese said, after a moment. Children didn't generally cause harm; but their leaving their parents tended to cause search parties to happen. He paused, and for a moment he seemed frightened. He shook his head to clear it. "Right. Let's go stop them."

"Where are they, can you tell?" Lori asked. "Lead me there, then you stay behind. I have a shiny badge to flash in their faces if nothing else works. Then we'll have to escape pretty quickly before anyone comes looking for 'the FBI agent in the woods. Heck, it might make them more afraid. here's to hoping."

Toby texted Lori when they left, when they landed, and when they were all settled in and awake. From what Lori had said, he imagined that the entity would want to meet those working on his case. It appeared he was right.
Nobody gave Lori a second glance as he entered with Reese in human clothing and headed up to an expensive suite. He knocked on the door, and he heard the peephole open and close after a long moment. It was Dari who opened the door and stepped back to let their guests in.
"Hello," he said.
Toby got up from his seat in an arm chair and smiled, approaching Reese as soon as he entered the main room and offered his hand.

Reese was not initially impressed with either of the two guys. He looked at Dari and raised an eyebrow. He studied Toby, and didn't take his hand. Instead, he headed for Maia and sat beside her on the bed. "You're fae," he observed.

Toby hung his head and snickered. Oh boy. This was going to be interesting.
"She is fae," Toby said when he had composed himself, "She's our fae ambassador. Unfortunately we don't have any other fae agents on the payroll down at headquarters, and you seemed to be in an urgent state."
Dari took off his green ring. No stranger liked an illusionary spell but the humans.

Maia was amused. "Nice to meet you, too," she said.
Dari caught the guardian's attention. He stood up and went over to the alien. "What are you?" he asked. "In a thousand years, I've never seen anything like you."

Dari smiled.
"I'm an extraterrestrial, Sir. An alien. Fae magic made me this ring." He lifted the green ring for the guardian to see.

Reese took the ring from Dari and studied it. Once finished, he gave it back and smiled to Dari. The alien apparently had his approval. "I know what you are," he glanced at Toby suspiciously.

Toby nodded.
"I know. I've been trained for forty years. I'm harmless," he said, "Besides, the next full moon isn't until next month, so we have plenty of time if you're nervous. I'm also head agent of our bureau."
