Toby sighed as he stood and turned on the lights, dismissing the meeting.
"We should get out there before tomorrow if at all possible. I'll work on finding some relatively safe lodgings. I'd say work attire and casual attire as well? Lori wasn't in his suit." He chewed the inside of his lip briefly. "Dari?"
"Mm?"
"Would you be comfortable leaving Cody so soon?"
Dari nodded. "If you want me to come. You don't think the illusion spell might turn the entity off?"
"I'd be willing to take that chance to have my partner with me."

Maia nodded. Lori sounded stressed. She was willing to bet the entity was giving him more trouble than he was letting on. "How soon do you do you think we can be there?" she asked. "I'll text Luca and ask if he'll keep an eye on Peaches." She pulled out her phone and sent a text.
She got a positive response at once. Sure!
Reese phased up from the ground, taking Lori's hand. He was dressed in jeans and a t-shirt. "Hey, Lori! Check this out!" He disappeared, only to appear in a branch overhead. "Cool, huh?"

Toby thought a moment. "We can probably be out by 11 or so, but we'll have to set up in our room."
Lori turned off the phone and tucked it back into his pocket. He turned as his hand was grabbed, watched Reese rise up and then saw him disappear. The elf smiled. "Very nice."

Maia nodded. She smiled at Toby. "Alright, so we'll be there around... Noon?"
Reese appeared at his side again. "I can do all sorts of stuff. Want to see?"

Lori nodded. "Sure."
On and off this guy seemed entirely adult, but this was one of those odd moments when he seemed to be his physical age. As long as he didn't hurt the agent, though, things would be fine.

Maia rubbed the back of her head and looked awkward. "I knew that," she said.
Reese took Lori's hand and began to lead him through the woods. "I dressed so in case a human sees us, they'll think I'm one of their children. You said I can't tangle anyone?" Roots started to stir beneath Lori.

Lori followed easily.
"Sure, that's a good cover," Lori agreed, and then stopped in his tracks and looked down. He laughed slightly. "It'd be best for us if you didn't. Myself included." He stepped out of the circle of roots.

"It's easier than reasoning with them. They started treating me like a kid. 'Where's your parents?' 'You can't be here!'. I was here before any of them were. It was easier when I could just scare them away. They thought I was a ghost, so they'd leave. That doesn't work any more."

"They can't be reasoned-with. It's your appearance that throws them. Humans can't comprehend someone looking young and being adult. You're older than me by a long shot," Lori replied sympathetically, "These people are monetarily motivated. Money rules some people. I don't think these ones are going to be scared off." He worried they may even brave the 'haunted forest' and then there'd be more collateral damage to deal with.

"That's why I don't like them," Reese said, frowning slightly. "Every other living thing respects nature. Humans destroy it. I've seen them cutting down trees. I feel it." He made a face and winced. "Why can't they make their houses from stone? Or mud?"

"They may not even be using the wood from the trees," Lori admitted, "They may just be clearing room for houses and yards and things. When this is all over we're going to replant what they took from you, plus some."

"So they pointlessly kill trees. I like them even less." Reese studied Lori. His brow furrowed, and he looked a little skeptical. "I don't know if that will help. These trees here, they're me."

Lori offered an apologetic smile.
"It will. I mean, we can't take the pain away, but we can give you trees that will grow into you." He'd be curious to see if Reese stayed the same or regressed because of them, however.

"I've never done that," Reese mused. He nodded at Lori. "When will your friends be here? Can they get rid of the humans?" He looked around. "If they come further in, they'll be harming more than me." Creatures lived in the trees. Squirrels, birds, insects. "I'd prefer it doesn't happen."

"Well your trees must drop a few viable seeds each year. New trees were growing into you without even noticing." Lori smiled. With that, he had answered his own question. No, Reese wouldn't regress.
"They'll let me know when they're coming. It'll probably be tomorrow morning. It's going to be a bit of a process to get them to go, but we'll figure it out. As for now they shouldn't be removing anything else if they're already setting foundations, but those foundations need to stand to be sure they don't cause more damage than they already have." Hint hint, stop destroying their foundations.
