You can TRY resorting to violence just because I'm rationalizing at a level that makes you uncomfortable, but I should remind you that I am in possession of a kintetic-dampening force field that would render any attempt useless-you'd merely end up smacking yourself.

If that's the attitude of the villains of your era, then the legends greatly overstate the heroism of Superman and his ilk. Humans are surprisingly varied. Not everyone is borm with, nor will they develop, intellectual capacity. Their brains may be able to store unlimited amounts of information, but they cannot access nor process it all. Such people are forced to rely on their physical gifts. As a matter of fact, such people are the majority. One learns to accept this fact . . . . perhaps to even exploit it.
