First I was really sad about having to say no to a job interview because I wouldn't be able to get a ride to it within the scheduled time.
But now I feel better about it since the city of Buffalo is closed after the massive windstorm broke the ice boom keeping all the ice that formed over the top of Lake Erie from flowing down the Niagara river in huge chunks and clogging everything up, and now power is out in most places and the ice is clogging everything and causing floods.
In that case, I should have said yes anyway...
*feels sad again*

I was thinking of spending the next several months saving up money, then moving to the islands for at least a year for some independent study on volcanic rocks and some general making-it-on-your-own. I just graduated from college and it seems like a graduatey thing to do. Tell me if you ever see any advertisements for super cheap apartments.

Congrats! *Squees because she has tabi socks for her kimono now, as well as purple & black striped arm warmers* I could spend hundreds of dollars on socks and arm warmers from this website if I had the money to spend. Gaia needs to have striped arm warmers. So badly.

congratulations, hanae! uh... what's erlham?
@miri: yes, gaia needs to have arm warmers. the only ones available are those zebra-striped thingies, but they only go on one arm. rawr.
mm, i never really got to do any of that post-graduatey stuff like travel/intern/take time off. i can't wait for my very first year-long sabbatical.
@vin: nope, freezing rain is not fun at all. especially if you have to drive. do you think you'll get a snow day? xD everytime it snows here, even just a little, i wish for a snow day. i suppose that happens because i've grown up in a place with no snow at all.
all my life, i wanted snow. and now that there's truckloads of it here, i am wishing it would all go away. or at least completely clear it from the places where we have to walk and drive. i miss being able to walk and drive without fearing for my life.

Hey, my english Professor is on sabbatical this semester. And no, we wont have a snow day... everyone lives on campus, and most of the teachers live close enough that if they cant drive, they can walk. XD Some of the teachers cancel, (like when we had the ice storm) but none of mine did.
Hanae: Contrats!
Jen: I would... If I knew what I wanted.

Well, i think for Volcanic activity you probably would be best over at the big island.. i dunno though XD And as far as looking for places to live, Matt and I found lots of places on http://honolulu.craigslist.org/ you can even choose which island too, which is handy.

Care_e Well, i think for Volcanic activity you probably would be best over at the big island.. i dunno though XD And as far as looking for places to live, Matt and I found lots of places on http://honolulu.craigslist.org/ you can even choose which island too, which is handy. My ultimate goal is to be a "mafic igneous petrologist", which means I want to be an expert at already-hardened lava (imafic lava in specific, which is high in Iron and Magnesium and is what the Hawaiian volcanoes spit out) and their related volcanic features. That means all of the islands are good for me to be on, because each has almost exclusively volcanic rock in various stages of erosion. A Volcanologist, on the other hand, studies the ongoing or future aspects of active/dormant volcanoes. They'd all want to be on the Big Island, measuring temperatures, recording earthquakes, and doing other boring and mundane tasks. Igneous Petrologists get to crawl all over the rocks, hammering, collecting samples, and enjoying a few cool ones with their field assistants. It's a much more casual and independent job. Volcanologists study volcanoes to prevent loss of life and valuable property. Igneous Petrologists don't care what dies or gets destroyed as long as it's fun to look at afterwards. That's the problem with Hawaiʻi... they want volcanologists, but not igneous petrologists... which is why I won't be going to grad school at University of Hawaiʻi at Honolulu... Sigh. *goes to search craiglist*
