I totally wanted to put this in the "Do grades matter?" thread, but all the posts I make are irrelevant to the topic since they drift away...

I basically have to care about my grades and GPA. School > Grades > A future in life.
My dad wants me to stress out every time I get home from school and study extra for 6 hours. I totally can do that, but just for a 4.1 whereas my peers have like +4.5 GPAs since they're taking Dual Enrollment/AP classes, won't make a difference and considered futile efforts if colleges compare off GPAs. Throughout my life, I always wanted to relax more often and keep grades above average (B to A range), and I'm ok. If it ever falls, either I'm doomed for the rest of the 9 weeks period or I can study my *** off for a higher grade. I know that this may sound stupid, but I'd rather take classes that affect my future on what I want to do. Yes it sounds completely ignorant that next year I dont' want to take AP US/VA History or AP Calculus, I just want to get far ahead in Physics and Honors Calculus + DE Multimedia + DE Computer Information Systems (CIS). I just don't want to is all...
sweatdrop So are grades important? To me, they are as long as it helps out with what you want to do in life.
That's the problem with the world today.
Everything's just a means to an end. Nobody succeeds to succeed anymore.
"We're gonna cure cancer!"
....
"But only if we get paid a*LOT*."
"I'm going to go overseas and put down the people who threaten peace!"
....
"Because if I do, they're going to pay my way through college."
"I'm going to be the perfect student, get perfect grades, never think twice, and never question the orders of those in charge!"
....
"So that I can eventually get into college. And get a high paying job. So that I can have a lot of money later on."
People are goddamn pathetic. Putting a patent on medical research so that nobody else can get the money attained from the discovery.
Joining a military force and having the defense of the country low on the priority list.
Putting on the illusion of learning to attain a title that in no way fits.
And, what's more, this is actually encouraged. Melded into the minds of the young, that it's the way to go.
The only generation worse then the one coming up is the former one that made it that way.
