Cody kissed Dari's cheek and grinned, amused at the alien's expression. "That's when I first started thinking you were the one for me. I could see how much you loved nature. I knew you were special." The path was becoming a bit steeper, now. They were almost there.

"So soon?" Dari asked, but then amended, "I did too. I saw you were a person who enjoyed the little things in life, and the natural side of things. Not many people do nowadays."

"Don't give me 'so soon'. " Cody teased, and kissed Dari's cheek. Toby's already going to be teased. He suggested waiting on it, but then Maia said they'd only been dating since late last year." He shook his head. "Protective older brother at his finest." He looked around. "I think loving nature says a lot about people."

"He just didn't want you to ask me before I told you about me. About us." Dari shrugged. "When you know, you know. Oh, and I can show you baby pictures now. I can show you to certain places in HQ as well, if you ever want to see." He nodded as they stepped into their clearing. "Mm. It does. Look!"
A rabbit was hopping placidly around the glen a ways away, nibbling flowers and greens.

"I'm still going to tease him," Cody said, grinning. "You being you didn't change my mind. I was going to ask you the day you decided to tell me," he added. "I'm glad you trusted me with this." He smirked at the idea of baby pictures. "I can't tell mom I've seen them, she'd demand to. I'd like to see where you work."
He looked. A rabbit! "I love seeing them wild," he said, softly so the rabbit wouldn't be frightened.

"Oh. Well, I'm sorry for making you cry instead."
Dari sat down very slowly so as to not startle the animal and simply laid his hands in his lap and watched it. It must see them, he decided, so it was best if they didn't try to get any closer.

"I made you cry, too," Cody said, and at this, he looked to Dari guiltily. "I'm so sorry, love. But!" And here he paused to slowly sit down beside Dari, "but I'm not sorry it happened. It was another trial, I guess. That's what my Mom would say. And I think we're stronger because of it. You don't have to worry any more." Not about keeping secrets, not about hiding his true identity.

"I know."
Dari leaned his head on Cody's shoulder and sighed. The day still smelled fresh and clear. He watched the rabbit a while until it bopped off into the woods again. Dari turned to smile at Cody.
"I like this. I like you."

Cody wrapped an arm around Dari and smiled. "I love you," He said. He placed the picnic basket in front of them, but didn't open it. He looked up to the sky. "Look, I see a heart." He pointed to a specific cloud.

Dari wrapped an arm around Cody and fell back with him, cushioning his head as it fell.
"I see it too. Right there." He pointed to it as well. "That one looks like Pluto. The dog, not the planet." He pointed to another.

Cody smiled. "I see it," he said, laying back with Dari. "That one looks like a fish," He said, pointing to another. "Or maybe a dragon. ...A long fish?" He chuckled and shook his head.

"You know, if you come to HQ you get to see one," Dari said with a smile. "A little one, granted, but a dragon. He's not the long sort. A while ago we relocated a big long one that the locals were determined to kill."
After a while of cloud-watching, Dari sat up and stretched. His human form still had a bit of a scar from the previously inflicted head wound. It looked like his truest self had held onto such things.

"A dragon?" Cody stared. His eyes widened. It didn't seem to matter to him whether the dragon was small. "A real one?" He couldn't believe it. He still couldn't wrap his head around it. It seemed every legend was real!
He sat up and smiled. "Ready for lunch?" he asked.

Dari nodded. "We try to put everything back in the wild, but he had a neurological disorder and would never survive out there, so he lives at HQ." He kissed Cody on the nose.
"Always."

"I'd like to see him," Cody smiled and started to take things from the basket. He offered two sandwiches to Dari. Marshmallow cream and peanut butter! He was sure Dari would like it. "It doesn't have much food value, but I think you'll like this."
