Kya drops by to see Ray. "Hey there. The caravan's just about ready, so Nakoreth and I are about to go to Fort. Do you need me to carry you to a wagon first, or are you going to wait for P'las?"

"Hello K'makin," Ray says in response to his greeting. Her gaze sharpens as he mentions carrying her to a wagon. Her pride prickles.
"No," she says in response to his question. "I absolutely refuse to leave my Weyr in a wagon. It's bad enough that I'm going to go down in Pernese History as the Weyrwoman for a Day; I don't want the infamy of also being so feeble that I cannot leave Benden on my own dragon. Would you boost me onto Wrath?"

Kya blinks in confusion. "But ... Wrath ... harness?" He had been fortunate in that a Miner had agreed to help inspect his weyr early that morning, and he'd gathered all of his personal effects, including Nakoreth's harness. But Ray had no such luxury. He coughs. "Should you be flying without a harness? I don't think it's safe. And I thought the Healers told you that you couldn't go between?"

Ray makes a face at him. "Well if you're that worried about me, go get a Miner, go up to my weyr, get the sharding harness and my sharding flying leathers."

"All right, I'll do that." Kya goes to find that miner he befriended earlier, and after a while, during which he can see the first few wagons start to leave the Weyr, he comes back with an armload.
"Got some bad news for you, Ray. Some big rocks fell into the bathing pool in your weyr, the splashes caused some of your things to get soaked. But luckily, since you're an untidy person, you left your flying leathers on the floor in Wrath's area, and the water didn't slosh that far. The harness was safe on its peg, so it's fine too." He hands her the padded leather jacket, helmet, and pants. "If you'll call Wrath over, I'll get this harness on her for you."

((damn logout! gonk ))
Ray gets into her flying leathers, squirming carefully to get the pants on without falling off her barrel, and shoving one boot onto her good foot and tying the other by its laces to her riding belt. A healer runs up as she shrugs into her jacket.
"Ray, we told you not to fly, that the cold between could cause additional damage to your foot."
Ray groans. "I absolutely refuse to leave in a wagon. Wrath and I will just fly direct. If I must spend the day sitting, I'm going to spend it sitting on my dragon, where I belong."
The healer tries to protest further, but Isskio shoos him away, flapping her wings at his head and squawking shrilly.
Once Kya finishes with Wrath's harness, Ray allows him to carry her over to the queen and boost her up. After he's backed off to a safe distance, Wrath jumps into the air.
Nakoreth's asking if he and Kya can accompany us. I like Nakoreth, he tells good jokes.
Ray sighs. More babysitters. Fine. Just circle until they get into the air. And take it easy, we've got a long way to go.

Kya watches Wrath lift off and stands there watching for a short while. Hey, can we go with them?
What?
Can we fly with them? Instead of going between to Fort Weyr.
I guess, if it's okay with Wrath and Rayi...
I already asked, it is. Hurry!
Glad that he'd already harnessed up Nakoreth, Kya runs to his dragon, fastening the ties of his jacket and buckling his helmet as he hurries along. He waves as he passes Shadill, who's sitting in the bed of one of the last few wagons, overseeing the loading of some of the supplies he'd helped move yesterday. She waves back.
Once Nakoreth's in the air, he flaps hard to catch up to Ray and Wrath, who are already winging out of the Weyr. As he glances down, the weyrbowl seems ... almost deserted, speckled with litter like a Gather Field the day after everyone's gone home. His stomach twists a little, almost regretfully, to see Benden in such a state, and he hopes that he and Nakoreth can help the Miners fix things.

Ray looks at the Star Stones as Wrath passes them. They seem to have weathered the quake rather well, and that makes her smile. Wrath circles, but Ray doesn't look down, instead focusing on the wind in her face and the comfort she only seems to feel while she's flying with Wrath.
Okay, they're up. Let's get going. Ray makes a wordless agreement, and the queen turns to face westward, flying strongly toward Fort Weyr.
((and thus endeth Benden Weyr; once Fort finishes with their business of the day, we'll be moving things along so that those of you in the caravan will be arriving there, hopefully that won't take more than a few days.))
