Laurel Gand I lived in Morocco for six years when I was younger. It's one of the most liberal Arab countries there is, but if my parents had criticized Islam openly or done particularly open missionary activities, they might have gone to jail. Ooo, I've heard that's a beautiful country. Yeah, I know a lot of countries are touchy about outside influence to any degree. Part of it has to be because of enourmous criticism from the west about their culture and practices, many of which date back many centuries.

I've seen a lot of their fashion recently while doing some research, and it's absolutely stunning. The artist in me swoons.

Jaeger_Ayers Yeah, this country is being rediculous. We elected a leader and then b***h when he leads. Bush won with less than 50% of the popular vote, so unless the "we" you're talking about is Republican voters, you're bullshitting. Ironically though, Republican voters have plenty to b***h about and they've earned it through years of corruption, media manipulation, and incompetance.
If you want to talk about the media, let's talk about Valerie Plame, Judith Miller and The Aluminum Tubes of Doom, or Jeff Ganon.
I was born both Canadian and American and I'll die that way. I want to move down to the States to live there for the first time in my life (I've been all over the states but never settled there), but I'm honestly afraid to. I've watched the American Dollar plummet consistantly (when I went to NYC in 1997, one Canadian dollar was worth approximately sixty five cents American. When I went to Denver for Christmas, I bought American Dollars for over eighty cents.) and concurrently with public opinion of the States since Bush was elected. I've lived to see a fellow Canadian citizen deported to Syria and tortured based on faulty intelligence that the Bush administration refuses to admit was faulty (which has since prompted Vermont senator Patrick Leahy to launch a probe into the case).
The Bush administration is killing America from within by subverting the principles on which it was founded to the point where I don't want to come home.

After taking a step back and thinking on this over dinner, I'm letting this drop.
I'm in the minority here in my views and that's fine. Pressing the point would inevitably lead to a few bad feelings so I'll be stopping before it reaches that point.
I apologize for starting the ruckus with my comments about the Boston incident. I expressed my views here when in fact I should have started a discussion over the matter in one of the main forums.
It is true what they say about the tow things you shouldn't bring up in polite conversation.

Jaeger, I'll respect you and read your comics no matter what your political beliefs are with very few notable exceptions. I'm a Utopian Anarchist and one of my best friends is a "South Park Conservative." The key is keeping it to policy, precedent, and objective fact. Always maintain a healthy distance from anything partisan. If you don't identify yourself with anyone, you don't get offended.

And that said, since I didn't know where else to post it, that novella you're writing is pretty good, Jaeger. I can't wait for the next chapter.

Hell, I'm against partisan politics and think the whole two party system should be done away with. I don't really identify with anyone, in fact I think all career politicians are a bunch of assholes. I just call it like I see it. Some folks who should be getting raked over the coals aren't. Some people that are, shouldn't. That's the way of things. I'm not offended by any of it, but I can see how some people could be and how things can escalate. As such, better to let it go.

You can feel free to post any comments in the novella thread itself. I don't mind. It is tricky to write though since I can't use names and haven't much clue as to what anyone involved actually looks like.

You know, I really should get back into politics. I haven't been since I graduated and dropped my paper route (we used to listen to a political talk show while delivering papers).
I used to be a pretty hardcore conservative, but only because my parents raised me that way. Now if I were to label myself, I'd say I'm a libertarian.

Black Belt magazine is to martial arts as Wizard magazine is to comics. For some reason they've started showing up in my mailbox. Since I lack the mutant power for spontaneous subscription generation, I have to assume that someone got me the subscription for Christmas and forgot to tell me. This sucks because I can't cancel the subscription for fear of offending someone and not knowing who to explain my actions to.
I really don't need month after month of "TKD works in the Streets", "Make your Art Combat Ready", and "Ground Fighting and You". rolleyes

I got my boss to play "Drop Kick Me Jesus Through the Goal Posts of Life" with the quartet he plays with in church. I had to see it. No one knew what in the world to think of it. I had the hardest time not falling on the floor laughing. whee
