I'm new to this guild. I play several instruments But I will only post the ones that apply here. Bassoon(main&favorite) Contra bassoon( 2nd inline and Second Fav) Obeo(it's okay.) English Horn(it's totally cool)
Hummm I wonder since I can play all the double reeds and am good at iall does that make me the ruler of you all?(I take lessons for all and have been playing all since 6th grade now in 9th) Plus I practice each one every day. and all my other instruments. Weel I only practice these everyday. Oh and I own all of them except the contra but thats next on my list. I should have it with in 2 years though.

I guess not unless you play better than everyone in here which you dont know if you do or not since you dont really know us.
Hellos everyone though... been in thsi guild for awhile now but thought Id drop in here again... been playing ym oboe for about what 11 months now and made mid-state back when I was onyl playin for 7 months. Im playing clarinet and alto sax as well at the moment but Hobo the Oboe is wonderful. My band director is amazing... and is torturing me with a song right now that has way too many oboe solos and me being the only oboe, and my professor at the college I go to for lessons and other things is also a awesome. She's teaching me reed making right now which is hard but ver helpful

FoolofHarlequin i have descovered quite possably the worst band joke of all time: how do insturments reproduce? a sectional reproduction xd That's like me and my friend...we were talking about how when I join the band how they'll do the sax sectionals, and my other friend only heard "sax sectionals"...Yeah.
I'm starting to think I won't be able to play the oboe in high school...Everything is a lot easier to play on my main instrument, the saxophone, and I can play everything perfectly. But on oboe...heck, I can barely play Spongebob! (I've only been playing it for a week, but still, it makes me feel sad...and I'm still not sure if I'd like to play oboe or saxophone in highschool concert band.)

I show up at orchestra and go "... Where is everybody?" On the other hand, it does mean that I get asked to play all sorts of fun gigs. And sometimes they're even paying ones!

I just started playing the bassoon yesterday and I was wondering if it's normal for my musles to hurt a little bit. I'm a tiny person, i'm only a couple inches taller than the bassoon confused gonk Also is there anything I should know to help me play better and to get use to it or something like that. I played the clarinet first and I think the embouchure is the same right? (Kind of, you have to loosen your lips for playing low notes, right...?) ninja

Howdy, my fellow double-reed players! cool
I also live out in the middle of nowhere. ninja
As to my main purpose: Anyone know where I can find a recording of a professional bassoon player? I've looked on the web, but it seems like all of the links I find don't exist anymore. sad

(Kind of, you have to loosen your lips for playing low notes, right...?) ninja I've been playing for 6 years and the muscle on my left shoulder blade gets stiff every now and then. When I first started, I had sore wrists. I don't know if that's any kind of reassurence, but that's what I've had. Also, when I first started playing, the bassoon came up to my forehead; now it's about neck-height. As far as embouchure goes, I don't really think it can be considered a loosening of your lips, but more like your mouth becoming rounder around the reed. Perhaps lowering your jaw a little as well, and tounging with a 'to' might help you get them out a little better.

I play oboe during concert season and marimba during marching season. I love them both, but oboe is my fave.

I play oboe in real band and flute to march (and English horn when I can get at it!). I'd like flue 'cept I'm bad at it. And the position you have to sit in to play it...ughh.
Anyway, I noticed on the poll only 5% of people prefer English horn. My question: Why not! Is it too awesome for you? Or just to hard to find? I keep threatening to steal my oboe teacher's...she just got a new oboe...maybe she wouldn't mind...too much.
I also notice an error in the survey. You forgot a few. It doesn't go "oboe, english horn, bassoon." No! Not on your life!
twisted It goes... musette, oboe, oboe d'amore, english horn, bass oboe, contrabass oboe!
And if all them got together, we could probably conquer to world by being obnoxious.

sugarnew182 LeonTheEviscerator I didn't start basson until mid-spring of my sophmore years, so before that, I played alt sax when marching. Now I'm in pit, and this year I'm pit capt. I started in 6th grade. I was section leader for 2 years, but this year we haven't played the Bassoons yet due to football games. So, I hope I'm still section leader. I'm the only bassoon in my school. (and surrounding schools) sad
