Claire sat holding the one month old baby. "Rebecca, you are so beautiful," she said softly looking around for Charlie. They still hadn't been as close since she tried to pull the knife from his hands.

Jack laid on his back in the warm sand, staring up at the night sky. The last month had been the craziest month of his life. What with Sayid practically being a hermit, Ethan showing up and disappearing again, Boone surviving despite all odds and Charlie being brainwashed and unbrainwashed all in thirty some odd days. Jack decided that the world was a mystery that could never be unravelled. He sighed and closed his eyes, drifting off into a peaceful sleep. The only peaceful thing he had had since the plane crash.

Boone was walking slowly along the path that led to the beach. Things had been way to crazy for him and he had lost some of it. He rubbed his eyes with the back of his right hand and stepped onto the warm sand. Seeing Jack laying down on the sand, Boone decided to go see him. He didn't really feel like being alone right now. He sighed and sat down beside Jack.

Jack was suddenly startled out of his light sleep. He sat up and looked around the beach. Jack noticed Boone walking along the shore towards him.

Jack smiled and stretched.
"Not at all. I was just out here looking at the stars. It's something that's kind of hard to do in the city, y'know?" Jack asked.

Jack stared out at the dark waters in the ocean. The waves were calm and serene. He looked over at Boone. The younger man had made a remarkable recovery since his encounter a month before with Locke and the plane.
"How have you been?" Jack inquired.

Jack chuckled.
"The work never ends around here. If it does, I'll find more work. It's just who I am. It's what I do," Jack stated.

"It's kind of funny. We're all alone on a deserted island. To most people, this is a vacation. But me? No. I can't seem to find any time. I mean, I'm worried that if I look away for one moment something is going to happen again. We don't need an instant replay of what happened to you just last month..." Jack trailed off.
He bit his tounge, wishing he had never spoken. What if he had crossed the line? He had said too much.

Boone looked away and stayed quiet for a moment. He had been getting angry very easily these days and he was getting angry now..even though he had no real reason.
''Listen, I didn't do that on purpose. If you want a freaking vacation, then take one and leave us take care of ourselves''

Strike one more for Jack's never being able to say the right thing. He turned to look at Boone.
"I'm sorry, Boone. I wasn't implying anything. It wasn't your fault. No one could have known. I was just using that as an example of what kinds of things can happen out here in the wild," Jack said lightly.
