Samuel walked through the door that lead to the roof, taking in a large, lung-filling breath. With a large exhale, he wandered out onto the large area, soaking in the surroundings. He noticed there were other people on the roof and wanted to go and say "hello," but they seemed busy at the moment. Forgetting about it, he walked over to the rail, leaning against it and enjoying the city below him."Que vista... (What a view...)"he said with a satisfied sigh. The breeze was nice today, and Samuel could hear birds chirping nearby. Reaching into his coat, he withdrew the drawing that he had received earlier that day. Looking it over, admiring it, he asked himself,"I wonder what she doesn't like about the color blue?"
Adriana opened the door to the rooftop and smiled from finally getting some fresh air. The city she had just perforned in had the smoggiest air she had ever breathed and she thought she was going suffocate. Adriana walked to the rail and stretched before leaning on it. The breeze blowing through her hair felt nice and she sighed happily. Hearing something that sounded familiarly like Spanish or Portuguese, she looked over to the side and saw a guy that looked unmistakably latin. "¿Usted habla español? or ¿Você fala português?" she asked curious to know.
With a sigh, Samuel returned the drawing to his coat pocket, not wanting his thoughts to ruin such a pretty view. It was then when he heard a voice talking to him, first in Spanish, then in Portuguese."Hmm? Oh! Por Olá, menina bonita. Sim, eu falo Português (Why hello there, pretty girl. Yes, I do speak Portuguese),"he said with his usual friendly grin. It was almost a breath of fresh air for Samuel to meet someone else who spoke Portuguese, but she didn't seem Latin herself. There was something about her that he liked, and her soul seemed to have a great rhythm."But English is fine too, if you prefer,"he added with a wink.
Adriana smiled and let out a small laugh at his answer. "Português é divertido falar (Portuguese is fun to speak) but I'm only just learning so my grammar, as well as my sentence construction, may be off. English may be our safest bet." she said with a nervous smile. She was glad he didn't realize who she was. Not wearing makeup does wonders. Adriana thought gratefully. "My Spanish and my Italian is way better."
Samuel chuckled at the girl's response, happy that she's learning another language. Her being multilingual was something that interested him as well."It sounded just fine to me, menina (girl). English is a pretty tough one though," he said, coupled with another chuckle. He then realized that he hadn't introduced himself to the girl. Extending his hand towards the girl, he said,"The name is Samuel Oliviera, but feel free to call me 'Sam' if you want."Samuel's favorite part of talking to people was the introductions, as it was the perfect opportunity to learn the most about someone.
"Glad to hear I'm doing well. Happy to know I didn't just embarrass myself." she said biting her lower lip. It was the first time speaking to a fluent speaker. She was learning only the basics online after all. "I'm Adrianna de Luca. I don't have a nickname...yet." Adrianna said in turn as she happily shook his hand. "So what brings you to DWMA?"
Samuel was a little surprised to hear that the girl was indeed Latin. He guessed that's what he deserved for assuming something. He did, however, like how her name seemed to roll off the tongue."A nickname? Well, my dad gave me the nickname 'Minuano,' after the cool Brazilian wind. Let's see what we can do about you, huh?"he said, still wearing his smile. Looking the girl over, he then asked,"What kind of stuff do you like? Maybe it will help he out a little."
Inside, Samuel secretly wished that Adriana like music. It would be a bonus if she like dancing.
"That's actually a pretty cool nickname. Is there a story behind that?" she asked curious to know. "Mm...well I do really like music. Music and art." Adriana replied. "I hope that helps some." Turning back to enjoy of the city from the rooftop, she sighed happily. It was such an amazing view...minus he creepy looking sun.
Samuel had never shared the story of his nickname, but by judging from the girl's curiosity, he wouldn't mind sharing. Looking out over the city, he began,"Well... Like I had said, it was my dad that gave me the nickname. When I was growing up in Brazil, my dad trained me in the beautiful art of Capoiera... Anyway, we used to spar every morning before breakfast, and he used to tell me that I 'flowed like the wind' when we fought. So he started to call me 'Minuano' whenever we finished practicing."He felt that the story was kind of boring to tell since it was so short, but the girl still seemed to be interested.
Samuel then felt excited when Adriana mentioned that she liked music. If she only liked to dance, he knew that they would be friends for life."You like music too, menina? Ha ha! Small world, huh?"he asked, beginning to feel pumped. Going by just her looks and her likes, he had thought of a nickname for Adriana."How about... 'Rockstar?'"
Adriana listened to Sam's back story with genuine interest. At the word capoiera, Adriana thought of when they offered a one day intro course at her old school. All she remembered from that day was the fact she twisted her ankle and pretty much thought from then on thay she had two left feet. "Hm. I guess that makes sense. Your nickname really is unique." she commented. Hearing his nickname suggestion she suddenly remembered the nickname her boss once used for her. "I don't know about rockstar. It sounds a little over used but I remember my boss calling me Indie a couple of times."
Samuel listened closely to the girl's somewhat distaste to the nickname he had thought of for her. It didn't bother him that she didn't like it, but he thought the alternative was fairly funny. It reminded him of the movies he used to watch as a kid."'Indie?' If I'm going to start calling you 'Indie,' I'm going to make you wear a fedora and carry a whip, amiga (friend),"he responded with a hearty laugh. He did sincerely like the nickname, but he wanted to pick on the Adriana a little.
Wanting to point out the figurative elephant on the roof, Samuel asked,"So, Indie... You're a weapon, huh?"
"What...?" Adriana started, looking extremely confused but realized his reference. "Oh, Indiana Jones. Maybe for halloween." she said with a laugh. That wasn't the reason why her boss called her Indie but it was a nice interpretation she supposed. Well, at least he was funny with a good sense of humor. Adriana ran into one too many people with either no humor or were trying to hard to be funny to the point of laughing at their own jokes. Taken aback by Sam's question, she raised an eyebrow. "Yeah...how coukd you tell?" sje asked curiously.
