Toshi: plenty ~ but the main cast have long since gone
ramenli: it depends on what kind of familiar ti is. Some familiars are simply a physical manifestation of a reaper's power, much the same as a weapon.
Others are demonic in nature, and those are derived from contracts, the usual deal being "work with me and I'll share my FEAR with you" ~ which is generally more attractive to those creatures that don't draw much FEAR to themselves naturally, and are unable to go and gather FEAR on their own. Most demonic familiars are very minor demons and only a step or two up from minipets.
Some have long term contracts with reaper families, and serve for generations, and it's not unusual for a young witch or warlock to start out with these trusted and experienced "training-wheels"-type of familiars.
The reapers have a certain amount of power over their familiars, but only so much as they can control the flow of their own FEAR. Needless to say, students can be easily overwhelmed by their own familiar if they happen to "over-reach" and try to bind themselves to something unenthusiastic and more skilled than themselves.

Thank you~ I have a vague idea of a reaper with a familiar that doesn't really respect the reaper due to her current lack of finesse at controlling her fear, so I was curious if that could work out. I may start plotting up something with a familiar that has ties to her family, that puts up with her because of those ties but probably treats her like she's useless. That combined with fear feasting I think would work out, but if this sounds completely implausible let me know and it'll be back to the drawing board for me!

Sleep eludes me, and instead I'm back to thinking about characters...
Reaper mages have the ability to be an elemental specialist. I was debating doing a storm element but rather than having this be a cheat to sneak in water/wind/lighting/ice I was looking at it as strictly dealing with storms. IE control over rain but no ability to create a wall out of water or anything. Summoning (eventually) a blizzard, but not being able to just encase something in ice.
Eventually I think she would have control over most aspects of wind because wind fits in a lot with storms (both funnels and directional winds) and lightning is purely storm based.
But I don't want to risk storm not being a real element and having her ignored as overpowered or anything.
TL biggrin R: Can I consider storm an element or should I stick to one of the basics like the main four, darkness, ice, or lighting?

Its not to say "storm" can't be an element, it's just simply too much of a catchall to be considered for specialization. You would still need to pick a certain type of storm (blizzard or rainstorm or thunderstorm or firestorm or sandstorm or hailstorm or tornado or hurricane and so on ~) to have them be considered a "specialist"

That makes sense, I never considered sand/firestorms. Thanks for answering my prelim questions :'D

Can a demon become a familiar to something not a reaper? ( besides a hunter emo )
Also above you described most demon familiars as only the weakest of demons - but is it possible for that kind of binding to happen between a very powerful demon and a very powerful reaper?

That would be more of a basic demon contract rather than a demonic familiar contract. The difference being ~ a familiar is full of the reaper's own FEAR, rather than an independent party.
A very powerful demon would have to be willing to become a familiar, so while possible, it's extremely rare since the benefits of such a partnership would be less than what the demon could have through contracts. Basically, it wouldn't be something a demon would go into for power (unless they were stupid.)

Are there caretakers/guardians for the pumpkin patches or do people generally just let them grow on their own?

There's guardians for the special ones ~ though impregnated pumpkins are usually taken home.

It's a common myth ~ kind of like in the human world, there's things like "you can get hairy palms from masturbation" or "you can get pregnant from kissing with tongue" ~ basically, after kids really start learning about where babies come from, the more strange and alarming myths seem to crop up, though they're eventually dispelled as kids grow older...hopefully.

What would happen to a reapers weapon if it was destroyed? Not just taken away, but actually broken/cracked/blown up, but the reaper itself was unharmed?
