You can make clear ice, It covers roads and such and causes wrecks often. Through a process called glazing, I could make Shinj's door become covered in ice, so that he can still open it, but he will walk into it.

I know, but from him just walking at a normal pace he wouldn't be likely to break through.

Wait... Now that i think about it, the Ice is the Glazing, and you also know it as Black ice. It is named so because it is clear, and unable to be seen well on the pavement because it is see through and looks black. So it was named black ice.
