Cindy sighed, she loved Vergil dearly but there were days....
"I'm sorry about that, he gets frustrated easily when there are concepts he cannot understand, and the social and emotional ones are the hardest."
Perhaps she should get Vergil out to visit more people, so he could see how other people interacted.
"Nah... all in all it's not bad," Donovan replied, "I mean he could be worse."
And Donovan had seen worse, Ruran being one of them.

"Worse?" Amused as Earendil was, he was also surprised. After all, with someone as sultry as Vergil was being, how could one be worse? Then again, he amended mentally, there were people like his uncle in the world, after all.
He looked over at Cindy. "Still, I give you credit for being patient with him," he smiled. "I don't know if I would, myself. Then again, I don't have any children of my own, so I wouldn't know. I just spoil my nieces ... and Amalirahc, and Miyuki."
He grinned.

"Give yourself time," Cindy replied, "Besides with all the traveling you do with Lin, you'll probably be half raising Miyuki anyways."
She meant this as an honest thing, Cindy foresaw that Earendil would have a strong place in Miyuki's life. In fact she bet Miyuki would be calling him uncle or something close to it.
Lin had to admit that was probably going to be true, since Earendil was already helping her a great deal with Miyuki in the first place.

"Considering that at the moment, it's dangerous for her to be with Lin when we're outside," Earendil agreed, trying his hardest not to blush (but failing), "I can see that. Those butterflies." He looked over at Lin. "They just don't want to leave you alone, do they?"
And of course Miyuki thought they looked delicious, so that was just plain dangerous. Though perhaps things would get better at night, or when the summer ended.

That was an interesting shade of pink on the prince Donovan couldn't help but notice. Though he thought it was a bit extreme to be embarrassed about helping raise a kid so it made him wonder.
"No," Lin's voice cut in, "They don't, trust me... I've been trying for a long time to get them to leave me alone, who knows maybe I will in several decades, maybe I won't. Seconds aren't normally born with gifts."
"Like you're normal," Donovan replied, "You have wings and look like the two of us. With you spending so much time here who knows what legends you find or tales you'll create yourself."

Earendil nodded and smiled, leaning back in the chair he was sitting in. "I wouldn't be surprised if she's already got people telling stories about her, Donovan," he grinned. "Especially back on Amon Darthir. The people there thought she was one of the Valar, at first. Either way, they'll be telling tales of the winged people for a long time to come."
He wondered at the look on Donovan's face, but he tried to keep himself from appearing too curious about it.

Donovan chuckled, "At least with your tales winged people are somewhat more normal than say wielding thunder."
He had heard of that tale, it cracked him up like no other because it had been long before he founded Haven.
"I still can't believe you brought a gun to this world at one point," Lin muttered.
"Hey, I didn't know what to expect when I first came here. All I wanted to do was go after your mother. Amazing what a trip does to your mind or your heart."
"That's the sappest thing I've heard from you ever."
"What? Can't I be a romantic?"

As amusing as the banter was, Earendil was confused about something, and that made him lose his focus on the conversation.
"Gun?" he repeated, arching one eyebrow at Donovan and Lin. "What's that?"

"It's a weapon, that fires off a fast projectile and without anything to silence it makes a loud bang sound," Donovan explained, "I don't have it on me, I locked those away and gave them up. It's easier to keep blades around."
After all the chances of a child cutting themselves to death was less likely than them accidentally shooting themselves in the head.

"I see," Earendil nodded slowly. Not that he really understood it fully, but he got the gist. "Though I'm still not sure that blades would be a whole lot safer to keep around in a family your size. I mean, knives are as dangerous, aren't they? And you have many ... many children."
As evidenced by the twins on the floor. And children liked to play with things no matter what.

"If for some odd unexplainable reason my children grow up enough to somehow get into a lock drawer full of blades, the chances of them cutting themselves bad enough with it is very slim... unless they start running around with one in which let's hope not. A gun on the other hand, the chances of being hurt very, very seriously is much more likely."
Donovan shrugged and then he added.
"Also I could take them the proper handling of blades probably before they can open a locked drawer."
"If you don't go into over protective mode," Lin muttered remembering her own delay in the use of blades.

"Eh?" Earendil arched one eyebrow at Lin. "Is there a story behind this? Because if there is, I would be more than happy to listen to it."
He smiled and folded his hands behind his head.

"It's nothing fancy or anything like that," Lin muttered giving her father a look, "He kept putting off my blade training, in the end he had to hand off my training to his cousin Vincent because he couldn't stay neutral on the subject."
"My cousin asked, it wasn't that I handed you off," Donovan protested.
"Vincent said you agreed after he pointed out you were going soft."
"And I'll remind you how many times you called him a sadist."

"Ah, yes," Earendil nodded. "Lin told me about Vincent. I don't know about sadist, he just sounded like a trainer to me. Do you know how many bruises and scrapes and even a few broken bones my uncle has given me during the course of my training? And now that I train - at least, I did before our trip - I was doing the exact same thing. If you're not afraid of being hurt during your training, you're not going to be very well trained, because you won't fight back as well."
He grinned. "Still. I can see why you would have had a hard time training her, Donovan."

"We were fine up until we got to blades," Donovan muttered, "Really she learns by herself, didn't even really need to send her to school since she pretty much sought out her own education."
Lin blushed at that because she remembered how single minded she was as a child.
"As for the sadist bit, Vincent as a bit of the same sense of humour as I do, so it comes off as sadist, even though it is a trainer thing."
