Well, I could fight. Guard duties shouldn't disrupt fun after all. But I'd rather not fight unless provoked.

Eh, whatever you'd like to do. He could do it for the fun of it, pay say half the money just for the fight and not the amulet just to get some amusement. If thats in his personality, if not then...perhaps because no one else will?

Perhaps, as of current though, as a guard he is trying to stop violence right now. Thats what I meant by provoked.
