I just had a strange thought. What if one day you play one of those games and the AI beats you and before it tells you that you've died the AI teabags you?

Can I say that? well too late I'm saying it. In a way I hate it when someone does it but I can't help but laugh each time.
PostPosted: Sun Apr 04, 2010 6:24 pm

XD There's been SOOOO many times where I was about to kill someone, and their teammate kills me, so they decide to teabag me. And while they're teabagging me, one of MY teammates just sits there staring at them until they turn around, then shoot them in the face XD

I'd probably laugh if an AI were smart to the point where it teabagged you...

I think that day will be coming soon.

I hope so. I'm not sure game developers are smart enough to make something like that... of course I do plan to become a game developer... so maybe I'll be part of the team to make the first teabagging AI =D

My passive aggressiveness is on high today all because of one stupid comment which leads to my pet peeve about people who say the most asinine things and in a way have their heads up their a**.

On Tinierme I'm in this girl gamer group...stay the hell out of it it's full of useless chick chatter. And one thing that comes up is gender bias in games though sometimes it's just 'Guys just don't think that girls can play games' crap.

Anyhow yesterday I made a post of compressed info from the lastest Game Informer mag that featured an article called The Gender Gap and it was good, it was informative and all and I wanted to share it. This is what this one girl said.

Quote:
lol did you post this just to piss us off or something?
Some of us don't need to be reminded of how
females are viewed im sorry but im offended by this.

I instantly went 'WTF?' offended? By what? So I asked and pointed out if that pissed her off she really should be around me.

Quote:
And what exactly are you feeling offended about? Or are you just saying that you are for the hell of it? If something like this does offend or piss you off (though for some reason you're speaking for the whole group) then you're not going to like me and I'll continue pissing you off, perhaps on purpose...more than likely on purpose.

Her answer
Quote:

What I mean is jesus, is that im tired of seeing all these threads about gender bias towards females, and how males see us. I MEAN WTF we are females, we know how some males look at us and think we are just lovers, etc. I just don't think we need a reminder over and over again about how males look at us, aren't we pissed that that is happening, you say the true is ugly and that if we pushed to show how much we love gaming that guys this thread is just making it worst by reminding ourself of that "ugly truth"

LOL some people don't know, but some of us are trying to FORGET THAT.

That triggered passive aggressive bitchy Bern. To be offended by THAT. So I do as I always do. Look at profile, get an idea of the personality then hit them where it hurts while keeping a friendly tone then after that b***h slapped her with 'Well what about ethnic bias in games?'

Can I see the thing you posted from game informer?

Also, you're still in that thread? I thought you quit after the last complaint?

This is a thread that I created. I'm still in the group mainly for the activity, the other gamer groups are rather inactive at the moment.
Quote:

Sorry the article isn't available online for everyone to
read but it was a rather informative read. A four page article (starting on page 18 if you ever get this month's issue of Gameinformer) that sort of explains why we see so few female protagonist in games, how the number game plays into effect, and the ugly truth to it all.

Such as despite us all being here and loving games the numbers still show that female gamers are still in the minority to the male counterpart, it doesn't make them better than us and all in skills (had to point that out).

Then there comes the gender roles. Now for historically
accurate games that wouldn't have women in the position of gun toting soldiers (ei: Call of Duty). But even then it's all about reality, in the news women aren't really shown at their best but at their worst: 'She's been kidnapped and need of rescue, she kidnapped her son, she killed her lover, she's one of this guy's many lovers'. Though at times those negative things do make for an great female protagonist (The article points out how Lilith in Borderlands was originally a male, but as a man he was disliked a simple gender swap but relatively the same
personality made the character interesting).

Time, development, and well budget also plays into the fact we have few female protagonist. It may be easy to design them but then the rendering, motion capture, and hiring another voice actor gets costly when there's already a male
protagonist.

But the horrible truth we get with this is that well sex sells and female protagonists HAVE to be SEXY. Take a look at all of the female leads we've had (that wasn't a kid) she was cute and
sexy and more suited to be a model than risking her life in the game, and the outfit didn't seem to help at all. A guy can be ugly but females...that's a no no. The only time they are is for a DS dating game where the goal is to lose weight and get cuter to get the guy. Hell even in the game Fables although there is a female character who does everything that the male does, even bulk up like him, players are hard pressed to keep that from happening to keep them looking good.

As horrible and biased as it all sound we have to face the ugly truth about these things. And in a way it's not just the game developers' who push this on us but us who makes them do this. If we all could prove we would love a game of a deformed female kicking a** we could close some
of the gender gap more.

Well, it's a gender bias that exists through out society. Art imitates life. If there's going to be such gender bias in life, of course there will be in art.

To that odd person who dislikes the 'ugly truth' and wants to forget it: You can't forget it. It's all around you. Trying to ignore it is only accepting it.

Isn't Call of Duty set in modern times? Or at least Modern Warfare? Why aren't there women in that game, there ARE women serving in Afghanistan right now. Same fatigues, same helmets and kevlar, same carbines.

yea, but there are a lot of games that give you both to play as, and people SHOW that they don't want to play an ugly female.

Just look at WoW. How often do you see a female Orc or Troll compared to the elves? It ges really annoying... But game companies don't care about the gamers as much as the money anymore...

I just pissed myself off...

To a point her irritation comes from there being an abundance of 'girls vs. guys' threads popping up. My irritation with her came from her basically being pissed off at the topic of my thread but not the content.

Basically. And as I kept trying to argue the point to her she pulled the old, "Well I guess my opinion doesn't matter" card on me. It's a peeve to me but I love it when people pull it just so I can call them on it.

Ooh, that's another RP pet peeve...

Arbitrary hatred/rivalries: That is, "Werewolves and Vampires hate each other!" (Got popular right around the time Underworld and White-Wolf became popular, but those both explained it eventually...) "Mages and non-magic users hate each other!" (More arbitrary) "Boys and Girls hate each other!" (...To use painful chatspeak, lolwut? Then how has the war been going on without EVERYONE DYING DUE TO A LACK OF REPRODUCTION HAPPENING!?)...WHY!? Even in a war RP where the factions are supposed to be opposed to each other, WHY!? One scapegoated the other one time too many? Slave uprising? One leader stole the other's favorite parkins spot that was like THREE STEPS from the door? What!? If you're not going to give a reason, then *if,* and that's a big if, IF I join, don't get surprised if I act solely to point out how stupid the conflict is. Especially if the name of the game is "We're monsters, don't let the humans know because they outnumber us 1000 to one" and you're having killings in the STREETS.

Which brings me to...

"Hiding" in plain sight: Basically, any supernatural RP where you're supposed to be being hidden from normal people (Magic, vampires, werewolves, elves, hobbits, WHATEVER) and a normal person could not realistically walk down the street without tripping over a blatantly not-normal thing, or the fallout of said not-normal thing's activities. You know, this is the age of security and cell phone cameras...chances are, you're being watched at any given time in a city, by some source. You don't think some camera's going to pick up on the freaky guy who turned into a friggin' wolf-thing and ate the dude that punched his car in half and, when it goes to a lab or something, ID him? I gave up on these kinds of RPs for that reason, pretty much. Even just a handwave of 'We've got a few guys who spend all day wiping footage or doctoring it' would help here, but no...Not even that much effort gets put into it.

And, for my third, and obligatory petty, ill-logiced-out one...

MAGE/WITCH IS NOT A RACE! ARGH! It's an occupation! You might have more or less potential, but you're a HUMAN who just so happens to be able to throw fire/lightning/whatever from his hands! Argh! This is what happens when you let a DnD nerd find RPs. Wizarding was a profession, not a birthright. I will note that Harry Potter seems to play with this, with magic potential among humans apparently being genetic, but again, potential varies, and apparently, even non-blessed-with-magic souls can pick it up with enough effort...That or the Quickspell thing was a scam. >.>

I played a female orc just for that reason. I wanted to play something so few do, as that to me in a video game is something I really enjoy. Didn't get her very far, but that's because I already had so many alts.

But you also gotta consider the fact that in WoW, at least 30% of the Elf girls are Dudes who follow the credo, "If I HAVE to stare at my character's tush for the next 3 months as I grind, it better be a perky tush."

Hell, my roomie is a perfect example of this...as he'd ONLY play female characters, because he liked to flirt with strangers to get them to give him gold. I imagine girls in WoW take the same approach everyone does, they focus on what's good as a character not what she looks like.

I, personally, normally play only a male character when picking a person avatar. But if the game has predeclared avatars, I actually normally pick the female. Some weird paradigm (Especially in old school games) happens where the female characters fit my sporadic, twitchy play style best. And I have no idea way.
