User Imagehe took Jamie by the arm and led him towards the Ferris Wheel. This was the first time she'd taken an instant liking to someone since she moved to Bayville, so there was a suprising spring in her step.

"Where am I from? Let's see... Well, I live in Bayville right now. I have a little apartment a few blocks away from the Xavier Institute. But tecnically, I'm actually Australian." she informed as they walked. Of course, she had only lived in Australia until she was 3 months old, so she knew nothing about it and had no accent whatsoever. She still liked to know she wasn't from America, it made her feel like an immigrant who was making a new life in the U S of A, or something.

Walking up to the ticket booth, Kai said, "Two for the Ferris Wheel, please." then she turned to Jamie with a sly grin. "My treat, you won me a tiger." She squeezed it with her free arm and it growled, just loud enough to make her jump.

"Oh man! That really scared me... Who knew this little guy could talk?" She held him up in joy and beamed with pride, until the ticket guy called her back to reality. "Your tickets, ma'am." She slunk back to Jamie's side, took the tickets and shuffled off towards the line for the ride. Suprisingly, the line was extremely small for the time of day.

Within a few minutes, the line had cleared and they were next on the Wheel. Kai climbed into the seat and patted beside her, motioning Jamie to come and sit with her.

"I think Emma is actually brining in her team of cooks for the day so nobody has to worry about it," Porter spoke off handed about the plans, "She's planning a pretty large feast and to stick you guys with it wouldn't be fair."

"How big is large?" Regina asked.

"Several hundred guests... we're breaking in the new dining hall," Porter actually couldn't wait himself he loved a good meal. So that's where he decided to head to at the festival, "Come on, I'm starving. I've heard they have some good food here."

Jacen watched sullenly as Penance held her side in pain and doubled over. He couldn't help but feel a twinge of remorse. Maybe he had slugged her way too hard a couple of times and her healing factor wasn't kicking in all the way yet.

"Hey...you good to go on this still?," Jacen yelled out from his position. Penance didn't answer him. Cautiously, he walked from his position around the construction zone and walked over to Penance. About two steps away from the girl, he saw her kick her head up and she lunged. With a tackle, the two of them flipped back and Penance was in a mounted position, slugging Jacen hard in the face.

"Ow...Ow...OW!!!," Jacen stammered between shots. His good arm was pinned down so he couldn't cover up and the only chance he had was to use his injured appendage. With a flailing motion, he brought his broken arm up like a club and with a squish, hit Penance upside her head. It wasn't a hard hit, but enough to get her off of him.

"My...arm....," Jacen muttered as he saw Penance getting to her feet alot quicker than he was. He felt nearly beaten and the rushes of adrenaline were quickly running him down. Still, with what energy he had, he rolled backwards onto his feet, and stood ready to fight again.

"Ev....babe.....," Jacen said calmly, "I don't know....if I can keep up this pace...."

"Are you quitting on me?," she asked, a bit of annoyance bled through.

"Not until I'm dead!" With that, Jacen conjured up his blade again, but this time didn't hold it. With as heavy a throw as he could, he threw his energy sword straight at Penance, hoping that it'd pin her to the ground when it connected. It was historically easier to defeat a prone opponent than an active one.

Regina sighed a bit. She hadn't had time to cook while she and Gen had traveled, she had been looking forward to the opportunity to make something for everyone.

"Do you think Emma would allow me the time and space in the kitchen to make a little something for everyone?" she asked. "Wait, hundreds of people!? I know it's going to be a big room, but... that many?"

Honestly, she hated large crowds. The carnival wasn't a problem, she could distance herself from that. But at the house...? Not to mention how many people just didn't understand their situations at the mansion.

This quite literally in all instances and definitions was ******** up. Neither of them could have forseen the blood drawn and the harshness dealt. When she blocked his blade it fell point into the earth. At that point Jacen rushed her out of anger and she managed to knock him onto his stomach with a fist. This was going to end.

Before he could get up from the ground, she pulled his blade out of the soil with her left hand. Instantly, fire seared up her arm. The blade was not meant for anybody to hold but Jacen. Her limb burnt, her nerves were ringing. The hilt tore at her skin and blood started to trickle down her hand. It didn't matter, she was ending this.

Taking his burning blade and her own, she pinned him face down into the ground and put the blade across the back of his neck. Through the blood, sweat, and tears of anger and frustration, she hissed, "This ends now. You can't get up, you can't roll over. Anything you do will cause in your own demise. This ends."

After a few seconds of heated silence, she dug his blade into the soil, her arm burning. Getting up, she dragged hers behind her and walked away not sure what to feel at the moment. She would heal, she knew that. Jacen would not and she was the reason and the cause of that. At what point did this go wrong, at what point did it stop becoming a fun challenge. At what point was she fighting her own demon Rage and not Jacen.

Sitting by the goldfish pond in the courtyard, Penance put her blade into the ground and rested her forehead on its hilt. Was this just business? Was it really?

"Apparently Harry Potter is her inspiration," Porter waved his hands like Regina should be envisioning the great hall. He bought her something from one of the food vendors.

"You figure most of the faculty and some of the students have families. That number adds up pretty quickly. Any friends and benefactors of the Instute will be there as well. Don't worry, you won't have to associate with people you don't want to. I know I won't."

"Yeah... I know." Regina nibbled on the funnel cake, then looked around for Kade. "We lost our other person. I wonder where he went off to... "

She knew he wouldn't care though. His attention was set on the food and at some points on her.

Jacen knew it was over the moment he let go of his sword. It was a desperate gambit on his part, one that he was certain wouldn't pay off...but he had to try anyways. And so with a sizzling energy on the back of his neck, he just stayed on the ground until Penance walked away and sat by the pond.

Carefully, he rolled so he was sitting down on the grass. He just sat there watching Penance. She seemed so down...nearly depressed. He could feel it too. It was a heavy air, one that Jacen took as much of the negativity there into himself just to have the energy to become mobile again. With his good hand, he picked up the energy blade on the ground next to him and looked at it carefully. There wasn't any spots of blood, or charred flesh anywhere, the only mark was the burned grass on the ground where it lay.

With a flash, the blade disappeared, and Jacen hobbled to where Penance sat at. It took a few extra minutes for him to actually get to her spot, but when he did, he cautiously sat down next to her.

"That sword I got you....it seems to hold up very well in combat," Jacen remarked, "Honestly, I was afraid it would break upon initial use. I'm glad to see that it holds up."

"Jacen. Are you going to be ok?," Evelyn asked, ignoring what he said about the sword.

"I'll live, sweetheart. Don't worry." Jacen looked over at her with the bruises on his face, and the blood trickling down and smiled very easily. "I'll live."

"...I feel so bad about injuring your arm...."

Jacen looked at her again with the same smile still shining. "Don't. We knew the risks when took up this challenge. We knew what the other was capable of. This is all just part of the game, Ev."

"Yea...hey," she said, her spirits picking up only slightly, "I heard someone mention a carnival. Would you want to go? I could win you a giant pink teddy bear if it'd make you feel better."

"...Yea...I'll go," Jacen said, struggling to stand up, "But first....I need to at least get this arm casted up." When he stood, he felt dizzy, he still reeled from the expendeture of energy, "Whoa.....wanna help me to McCoy's office, hon?"

"Yea, I think you may need some heavy drugs..." She said finally letting the fight go. She just needed to walk away for a moment. Just needed to let it all pass and be a part of the past. Her side started hurting for real this time, "Give me a second."

"You okay?" He couldn't really put a hand on her shoulder since it was his injured one.

She grimmaced and leaned on her blade. Her side felt like it was on fire as her arm had when she picked up the blade. When the pain went away, she moved her hand away from her side and looked at her skin. Smiling with a half laugh, "Heh, it's gone."

Her scar was gone. She finally let go of all that haunted her in the past. It was time to move on. There was nothing hanging over her. No Rage, no Forge, no Jade... clean slate.

She joked and helped Jacen up and to the Infirmary, "So that was all it took."

"I had thought he was following us," Porter looked around and didn't see Kade anywhere, "Maybe he ran into some of the other students?"

"Come on, we can look while we're walking. I don't want him to think we abandoned him," He put his arm around her, "Or we can wait and see if we run into him somewhere."

Jamie looked at Kai in disbelief as she dragged him off, then he broke out grinning, and fairly laughed out loud. It was so refreshing to see someone like this. Everyone had been so downcast after the past year that seeing someone who was so happy was wonderful. Jamie smiled at her as he sat down.

"Australia huh? And uh, how long did you live there?"

User Imageot for very long. We moved before I even turned one year old." Kai assured Jamie.

The Ferris Wheel kicked into life and the two were swung backwards, creeping into the sky. Kai's hold on the safety bar in front of her tightened slightly in anticipation. It was strange, she had nothing to fear. Even in the worst case scenario, she could simply jump or fall over the side from the very top and assure herself a landing unharmed, but still. Something about heights made her a little unsure of herself.

"How about you?" she jostled beside him, nudging him playfully with her shoulder. "What's your story? Do you live in the Mansion with the others?"

"Yea...just a severe a** kicking on your part," Jacen said as she took his hand into her's and they headed inside towards the infirmary area. After a small bit of time, the two made to the elevators and Jacen, feeling tired, leaned against the wall while they waited for a brief moment. When he looked down, he saw that his arm was twisted around a bit more horrifically than he thought it was. Maybe that was the cost of him using it in battle.

"Christ...this is going to suck.....," Jacen remarked as the elevator dinged and they both entered. As the doors closed, Jacen looked directly at Penance. "Take my arm. Yank on it. Get it back into place."

"Jacen....."

"Sweetheart, don't worry about hurting me. McCoy will have to do this anyways, and if we take care of this now, I can just get casted up and my meds. We'll be good to go," Jacen said as he took his shirt off carefully, and wadded it up. "....Here..." With that, he held his arm out and bit down on his shirt. This was something he had definitely experienced before. Without warning, Penance tugged and Jacen felt the bones in his arm pop right back into place. Of course, his scream of pain was muffled by the shirt in his mouth, but he redirected the instant rage he felt towards the wall next to him. Hopefully, Emma wouldn't mind a fistprint in plain sight.

*******************************************************************

"Oh my stars and garters!!," McCoy exclaimed as he saw Jacen stumbling through the infirmary entrance.

"Christ, Hank, do you live down here?," Jacen asked as he slowly walked to the nearest table.

"Actually....that's not important, what happened, son?"

"Good ol' fashioned sparring bout between myself and Penance," Jacen said as he had Hank already there looking over his arm. "Yea...it's broken. I just had it popped into place. There's a rather nasty fracture of the radius...the ulna may be cracked, but....it's the radius that has me concerned."

"Not even a day removed and you're already picking up the jargon."

"What can I say, I wound up with a good mentor," Jacen said as he winced in pain as Beast looked over the broken arm. Jacen relaxed while here. He knew he was in good hands.

"Me either. He's a nice guy. I think he needs some socialization, so this carnival thing was a good idea." Regina answered, relaxing against him. "Wonder if Penny and Jacen will join everyone here at the carnival..."

Jamie smiled slighty. What was his story? He didn't know any more. "Well, I grew up in a town in California, just outside of San Francisco. Lived there most of my life, before I was forced to leave." Jamie shuddered slightly, seeing the sentinels in his mind, seeing the people. All of them dead. . . and the survivors? They blamed me. . . Jamie shook himself out of his thoughts.

"So I walked. I spent a good. . . two years on the road, learning things from various tutors. I earned some money, and begged for food when I couldn't afford it." Jamie said, frowning when he remembered begging. It was one of the most horrific experiences of his life.

"Then I ran into someone on the road who told me about Xavier's Institute, so I decided to head there. When I got there, they took me in, and I've lived there ever since. Learning to use my powers, and how to fight. They also taught me subjects I hadn't covered while I was on the road." Jamie sighed. He hadn't thought about his hometown in a long time, and he missed it. He didn't know why, seeing as all he ever got was hate while he was there, but there was an idea of home that he missed.

"Oh, I'm sorry. You didn't ask for my life story. . ."

Flick. As Kris lights a cigarette, he ponders his kidnapping. He was not one for social occasions, but he was here, so what choice did he have? He'd watched the bumper cars for a while, but had lost interest. It reminded him also of new york city. As he wanders amounst the brightly lit stalls, he notes one that stands out a little bit more then the others, a 'Whack-a-mole' game.
After asking how to polay, and commenting on its complexity. ("That's it?") he begins. As the first had rises from the ole, he brings his mallet down, repeating this until the time had expired. As he turns to go, he hears the vendor call to him, handing him his prize, a small stuffed....rabbit. Blinking, he takes his prize, wondering if there is a gift exchange. As he wanders back in the vincinity of the bumper cars, he stares at it.
Well, it could be worse, but he didn't know how.
