Nino had listened quietly to Leander's explanation. It could have taken them home but... The keys were used already? Did that mean... And even if she did leave, she would just be in danger again. She would just go back to die. She resolved that she would never see Jaffar again...
Then the door swung open. She looked up, startled.

Ed followed the Ice King to a thing she, of all people, didn't pay much attention to. The Door. She watched and listened as Leander spoke of what would happen — that anyone who crossed it away from Learania would never return. And that was a weight on her heart.
She whined quietly as she watched The Door open. At least her counterpart, the younger Soren, couldn't leave her. He wasn't even here. She didn't see the older one around either, so he couldn't leave. And she had the reassurance of many other friends that they wouldn't go!
But she whined anyway. For one, she sounded selfish... For another, there stood the chance someone would go anyway.

Amelia was silent as Leander explained the door's true nature, trooping down the stairs. This is the only way to go back... Amelia glanced over at Rhys, then back ahead as they reached the imposing presence of a simple door. Amelia gulped once. The atmosphere was thick enough to be cut with someone's sword.
"We'd be unable to come back...?" Amelia echoed, speaking up. She looked over at the others again, getting nervous. Would anyone leave FEF even if they knew they'd be gone for good? she thought. She looked back at the door. If... this takes you back to the moment you left, would you lose all your memories of this place...? We kept our memories from when we disappeared from our original homes, but I'm not...
Amelia's eyes widened as the door slowly creaked open. A portal back to Elibe, or Magvel, or Tellius, or wherever they had come from originally. She instinctively reached over and grasped the sleeve of Rhys' coat with both hands, though she said nothing.

Melethia looked to see the door open. She just lost it. She took the cloth that was covering her eyes, reveling her blind eyes. The tears couldn't be hold back anymore. Melethia was crying now.

"It appears so Amelia." Guy spoke silently. "I don't want to leave this place. I've come to love everyone at Fef. I won't go even if I never see me other family again." Thinking silently to himself. "I hope no one leaves us." He hoped in his mind watching The Door to see who went through.

Renault looked at the open Door with a sort of longing; not for any particular thing, but for the land he had known so well, for the things which he had left behind. He was torn; he didn't know how he would go, now that it came down to it.
But, a moment later the longing quelled as he looked around, at the people he'd met, friends he'd made. How could he just leave them, knowing their pain, their anguish over this same choice? He had realized something over the time he had been here. Being a bishop could not be simply to atone for what he had done. To be a bishop meant to care for others selflessly, to put their needs before his own. . . to be there for any who needed it. And this was what he would do now. He would be there for them.
The bishop stepped back from the Door first and shook his head. "I. . .will not go." He paused for a moment, then turned his attention to Melethia, moving over and wrapping his arms about the woman in a gentle, comforting gesture. He would be here for any who needed him, without any hesitation.

Nino silently took a few steps toward the door. Her thoughts drifted to Jaffar. They drifted to Uncle Jan and Uncle Legault waiting to see her-- She thought of her second son...

And immediately Ed was on her feet, Nino's cape in her jaws. The wolf whined and tugged, begging their guildmaster not to go.

Ninian remained silent as she listened to Leander speak. She could just here him even though he was in a different room. She didn't see The Door open, but she felt it, felt the power when it did. Rising, she entered the room where The Door stood open.
"Oh, no. . . ."

Renault's eyes widened just a bit, in surprise and worry. "Lady Nino. . . this. . . is your choice," he admitted, though rather painfully. "If you wish to leave. . . then you should be the one to decide. You are well-loved here. . . and if you do go, you will be sorely missed. . . by all of us." He cast his eyes towards the floor. ". . . But. . . you must choose for yourself. . ."

Nino looked down at Ed. She blinked for a moment, but continued trying to get to the door. Jaffar. Lugh... And everyone... She was overcome by emotion. She should have been thinking about her life here, but...

"You can't leave!" Rei flying tackled Nino away from the door. "I can't let you leave all of us! You're, like, the only thing keeping us from going into insanity! We NEED you here! And for all you know, everyone that you want to see on the other side could end up here." Rei started crying and sniffling, reverting to childish mannerisms. "Pwees don't leave us, mommy?"

Leander turned, staring into the bright glow beyond the door. "He calls me," Leander murmured softly. "He wants to see me... Not you. You all must stay here..." His voice was fearful, haunted, but slowly he stepped forward, into the light. He passed through the doorframe and was engulfed by the white light that poured through the door.
Just as Ed and Rei lost their grips on Nino, the door slammed shut behind him, leaving their eyes to adjust once more to the darkness of the cellar.

Huh. I'm impressed, to say the least. Last night, I probably would have jumped through that doorway without a second thought. I could go back... Hell's bells.
Rhys stared at the doorway for only a moment.
Then he shook his head.
"...No, it's alright," he said. "Don't think I'm not impressed with your opening the door there, because I am. It's just... well, I came here because I wanted to, so here's where I'm going to say. ...Err, I mean stay."
...Sorry, Mother. Sorry, Father. Goddess, would you mind watching over them?
