My smile was a thin one when I learned her age. "You are indeed young Bethany. It seems there is alot more in this world you should probably learn before trusting a few days kindness. I would not want you to be tricked by a devious person with kindness." I said as we reached the petting zoo. Again I chuckled as the animals avoided me.

I nodded in acknowledgment, "Where did the blood come from?" I asked.

((I've been dead, I know. So much stuff going on, haven't been on Gaia much, and when I get on, no one's posting!! xd ))

"I-I don't know," I stammered. "It was just... there. When I..." When I what? When I woke up? I wasn't even asleep. Just in a trance, for days on end. I'd been hollow since Erik left. Maybe I'd follow the way of the girl who had walked out into sunlight...
Already, I was forgetting everyone. Their names, faces... Everything was fading away.

Bethany sighed. She had a feeling he was going to say something like that. "If you were a devious person, you wouldn't have warned me. You wouldn't have saved me from David. And you would have eaten me like a rabbit last night in the forest." she replied as she paid for a sleeve of saltines. "I... I'm sorry... I'm not usually so... forward..." she told him, her voice becoming meek again. She looked down at the ground and trudged over tot he pond quietly.

"Well I won't say you being forward is a bad thing so there's nothing to be sorry about." I said as I watched her walk towards the pond. I walked over to her and looked out over the pond. "You know some times the kindest men turn to be the darkest of fellows." I said grinning.

Beth opened the packet of crackers. "Not you." she said with conviction as she sat down on the grass next to the pond. The wind picked up a little, fluttering her hair. "I know you must think I'm some kid, but I'm smart. I... I know what I want... and I know the risks. I just don't kow how to go about getting it. Guys tend to ignore me unless it's to help them with their high school or college homework. I know I'm not pretty. That's why I'm always ignored." she said with a sigh, her voice low, almost a sad whisper, as she tossed a cracker out into the water and handed the package to Josh..

I waved a hand in her face, "Are you okay...?" I asked, slightly perplexed.

"You're right Bethany, you're not pretty. You're beautiful. I'm not sure why any man would ignore you." I said as I accepted the crackers and tossed the bits out across the pond. As if I tainted the crackers by touching them the ducks avoided the ones I threw but ate the other ones greedily. Chuckling I offered the the crackers back to Bethany. I could still feel my wolf inside wanting to rip out of me and show how wrong Bethany was about her beauty; but as before I controlled the wolf inside and it went further back into my mind growling lowly.

Bethany was stunned, as was evidenced by the hanging open mouth and the sudden lack of speech. She blushed so red her face could have been mistaken for a giant beet. She slowly reached out and took the package of crackers, before finding her voice again. "Y-you really think so...?" she asked as she tried to struggle past her shyness.

"Of course, why in the world would you think you're not?" I asked noticing her red face. I realized she wasn't use to compliments and perhaps that is why she seemed a tad bit naive in certain aspects of life. The situation reminded me of a time when I spent with a medusa. She had thought herself ugly after all what monster that turned people to stone with a glimpse of her face would be beautiful. In fact she was truly beautiful and after we found a way around her curse she became married to a gargoyle that had always watched her from afar. It saddened me that a such beautiful creatures had to feel as if they were not.

Bethany tucked a loose strand of hair behind one ear and tossed some more crackers out into the pond. "Well... other than family... no one's ever said that before... I was too young to date when I was in high school... and too busy when I was in college... and no one seemed to notice me..." she said with a little shrug.

I thought as she said this. "I wonder, did you ever try to get to know someone?" I asked with a grin. Perhaps people found her attractive but were intimidated by her studying to say anything. I found in my travels that people who work hard can be very intimidating even if they did not realize it.

Bethany looked down at the ground. "Yeah... kinda... but I was so scared.... cause I didn't know anyone. I tried talking to my roommate when I lived in the dorms... but she was... really weird... and would just stare at me... And I tried talking to my roommates... but you know that look people get when they are bored? Like their eyes glaze over...?" she tried to explain. "So... I guess I just gave up... I asked you to stay because I felt bad that you didn't have anywhere to sleep... but if you are going to move to the Manor, then the house will be all quiet and lonely again..." Her voice, the whole time she talked never rose much higher than a whisper as she stared down at the ground, tossing another cracker into the pond.

"I would still be able to visit you Bethany and who knows they may not let me stay there. Though I must admit that your house is extremely comfortable and the company is incredibly interesting." I said as I watched the ducks as she tossed them crackers. I saw a group of kids laughing as they played soccer.

Bethany blushed slightly again. "Thanks." she said as she slowly got up. All that walking had made her ankle sore, especially after she tripped over that piece of tree root last night. She thought she did incredibly well at hiding the pain. Bethany slid her hand into his. "I think the company that has been residing in my house has been rather nice too." she whispered as she laid her head on his shoulder.

I tasted blood as I bit down on my lower lip. The wolf seemed to be trying everything to get out. I took a few short breaths before speaking. "You want to...go sit down?" I asked slowly. Then I looked down and noticed her ankle seemed a bit swollen. "Nevermind we are sitting and if you'd like I'll rub your ankle. You should have told me it was still hurt." I said worried.
