Ura fidgeted a bit in Lin's embrace. It wasn't that it was physically uncomfortable or anything ... he just wasn't fond of such displays of emotion. He was simply an unemotional being. For the most part.
Shiro, however, was ecstatic enough for the both of them.
"This is amazing!" he said cheerfully, jumping to his feet and skittering over to take Ura's hand once more. "Mother will be so happy!"
But Ura slipped his hand out of Shiro's and instead reached out and put both of his hands on Shiro's shoulders.
"Be careful, Shiro," he murmured seriously. "Don't fall in the water ..."

Adan was astonished.
"How did you grow so fast?" he demanded, also climbing to his feet, careful to avoid the edge of the bridge. "You were just little a second ago!"

Ura... Lin thought to herself was very similar to Shiro. Very smart and older than he looked, or was. She couldn't tell at times.
"Magic, at least that's what Mommy says," Lin looked up, "That's how we grow, well Mommy grows like you and so does Daddy, but we kids grow like this."

"Everybody?" Adan asked incredulously, jaw dropping in amazement.
He paused to think about it, looking at Lin curiously.
"But ... if you all grow so fast ... why are you still so little?"
She had been the same size for as long as he had known her, while he had been growing steadily - at times more quickly than others, admittedly - for the entire seven years.

Shiro grinned proudly at Ura, then reached out and put one hand on his shoulder as well.
"I'll be careful," he promised.
He had been right: Ura was taller than he now.
"Come see the fish with us," he urged the younger demon. "They glow, just like the walls! It's amazing!"
And without waiting for a response, he led the demon over to the edge of the bridge and pointed downwards.

"Well.... it takes time between growings, and," she added to Adan, "Time passes faster here than back at home. It's been years and years to you, but it hasn't been so long for us. I'm not even a year old yet, but.. I will be in a few months."
She hadn't realized until she really thought about it exactly how much time had passed.

Adan stared at Lin wordlessly for several long moments, silent and unbinking; then, finally, he just muttered, "Weird," and tuned back towards the bridge.
There, he settled next to Ura and Shiro to watch the fish once more.
"Come on," he called back to Lin again, glancing over his shoulder at her. "They're starting to swim altogether now, it's really neat!"

Lin leanted over again to watch the fishes swim, they were very pretty swimming together like that. Though she had to wonder how they ate, there didn't seem to be much in the ways of food down there.
"It's very pretty..."

Adan grinned, kicking his legs lazily back and forth in the air as he lay on his belly to peer over the edge.
"Someday, when I can swim as good as Feng and Ryu," he commented softly, "I'm going to come back here and swim with them ... and see what it's like down there ..."
He glanced over at Aragost. "We're not allowed in this cavern without an adult with us," he told Lin. "It's too dangerous otherwise."

Lin nodded at that, she could see why, without someone to guide them in it would be too easy to get hurt. She wondered if that elf.. the one that Miyu had met while trying to find Aragost would have no trouble. She didn't know who he was, only had heard about him from Miyu.
"I think the twins would like that, this water is also warmer than normal, I'm not sure if they would notice that."
Since they didn't notice cold at all.

Suddenly Aragost's dark shadow loomed up behind the four children, dark and shapeless as always.
"We must get back," he told them softly. "Dinner will be ready for you ... the bats will be leaving the cave soon ... and the rain may yet begin before we arrive back. Come."
Adan wanted to stay longer, show his friends further into the depths of the cave, but he knew what it was like when the bats decided that it was time to leave, and by that time he wanted to be long gone.
"Okay," he agreed swiftly, jumping to his feet and heading back towards the tunnel through which they'd entered. "Hurry up, guys!" he called over his shoulder, pulling out his orb of light once more.

Shiro didn't know what it would be like to be around when the bats came out of the cave, but he did know that he wasn't fond of getting caught in the rain. For all his humanness, he was after all part cat.
"Come on, Ura," he muttered, clambering to his feet and reaching for the orb that was safely tucked away in his wings. "Time to go back. We can come back another time."
And suddenly, as he took Ura's hand and led him back towards the tunnel after Adanedhel, he realized that the demon was indeed now big enough to spend a week or so out here with him and the others, if their mother approved of course.

Lin was more worried about the idea of being swarmed with bats rather than the rain. A bit of rain wouldn't hurt her... though she would imagine it would make getting down a pain if they weren't off the mountain by then. She found the orb where she hid it, taking it out so she could hurry along with the others.
"We're coming," she told Adan, "Don't worry we should make it."

After the warmth of the cavern, the outside air was very cold indeed - right away, Adanedhel began to rub his arms, wishing that he'd had the foresight to grab a cloak, especially since he had known that there would be rain coming.
Just as the group reached the bottom of the mountain and started off into the trees, there was a loud screeching noise, and suddenly the air behind them was filled with a cloud of bats so thick that it seemed as though they would block out the sky. The beating of thousands of wings pounded the air so thickly that those on the forest floor could almost feel the pressure created by them.
"Just in time," Adan sweated a bit. "Now we just gotta beat the rain home."

Shiro watched the bats silently for a moment, following their movements with only his softly glowing red eyes.
"So those are bats," he murmured softly, his ears flickering forward and backward as he tried to screen out their screeching. He glanced at Adan. "I can see why you wanted to be far away by the time they came out ... I can only imagine what it must be like to be near them ... or in the cave."
