Idhril giggled and sat down on the counter to more closely examine her new piece of jewelry.

"Shiny," she purred, stroking the edges of it.

Elnara blushed a bit and shuffled her feet. "That was a long time ago," she said softly, well aware of Aranhil's gaze now. "I was only a child then."

She looked up at Lore curiously. What had he meant by his comment? Did she still act that way when she received a gift?

"You were not a child," Aranhil replied, equally as softly. "What happened to you ... to your parents ... you were an adult before you ever came to the city."

He laughed. "I'll admit, you had your childish moments, but really everyone has moments like that."

Well at least to a point, Lore added in his head as he watched Idhril trying not to chuckle at all at her actions. Though he couldn't help but listen in on the conversation.

Somehow he had a feeling that Aranhil would have a somewhat hard time convincing Elnara of that.

"Aranhil," Elnara replied in a bemused tone, "I was barely fourteen. I spent most of my time trying to escape my bodyguards. I ran away from home. I had a child's mentality as well as a child's body. I was, in every way, a child."

Idhril looked up at Lore, the leaf still in her hands. "Was Mama small like me before, Papa?" she asked curiously.

"You know that I never saw you that way, Elnara," Aranhil said softly, seriously, all traces of a smile vanishing from his face. "Even at that age, to me you were a woman."

He looked as though he wanted to say more, but after a quick glance at Lore he closed his mouth tightly once more.

Lore focused though on Idhril, there was that odd feeling he made Aranhil nervous. Well not nervous, but part of it was because of him.

He shook his head, "Your Mommy was probably bigger than you, like that baby Ulani had. She was probably around her size at one time and then grew up."

Elnara flushed slightly and moved closer to Lore. "I didn't know," she replied quietly. "I had no idea, not until the last time I was here and someone told me."

Her eyes softened then, and she sighed softly. "I'm sorry, Aranhil, truly I am ... perhaps, had things been different ..."

"Oh," Idhril smiled at Lore. "Okay." She looked around a bit. "Where did Silver dear go?" she asked suddenly. "I can't see him ..."

Aranhil nodded slowly, silently. Yes. If things had been different ... had things been as they should have been ... And of course, it was thanks to him that things weren't that way. It was his own fault. It had been he who had revealed her ability to her brothers, who had made her leave.

So how could he blame her?

"I'm sorry," he murmured finally. "I'm just being selfish, I know. Forgive me."

As Lore put his arm around Elnara's waist to make her feel better. For the conversation topic was becoming quite clear. Though he couldn't help but wonder the same as Idhril. There had been no sounds from Silvrendir, not that the little boy made noise often.

He looked around the shop, trying to catch a glimpsed of the small boy.

Silvrendir had busied himself drawing with his finger in the dust that had accumulated just inside the door. His wings were folded tightly against his back, and he was half-listening to what was going on behind him. Every once in a while he would glance up and make sure that everything was okay, then return to his drawing.

Idhril climbed back into Lore's arms and up to his shoulder so that she could look around as well. There was a display between her and Silvrendir, and she couldn't see him anywhere.

"Where is he, Papa?" she asked, sounding worried now.

Elnara put one hand over Lore's and relaxed slightly. Distracted from her conversation with Aranhil, she looked around. "Silvrendir?" she called softly, looking for him at the same time.

At the sound of his mother's voice, Silvrendir dusted his hands on his pants and wandered back over to her. "I'm here, Mama," he grinned at her. "I was playing at the door."

Aranhil sighed inwardly, but put on a (forced) cheerful face. After everything Elnara had been through, he thought to himself, she deserved to be happy. He had caused her enough unhappiness, he didn't deserve to be with her anyways.

Lore smiled seeing Slivrendir come out, "Playing?" he asked softly, "What sort of game?"

Though he was glad that Silver was not behind the door anymore, it would have worried him that something might have happened to the boy while behind the door.

Silvrendir grinned broadly and tugged on Lore's robes as if asking him to follow. He scampered back to where he had been sitting, his green eyes bright with excitement, and pointed at the floor where he had been sitting, and showed him the pictures that he had been drawing in the dirt - little more than stick people and squiggles.

Elnara smiled as she watched them, then turned back to Aranhil and murmured apologetically, "We should probably be going. You were the first one we came to see, we were hoping to see my grandparents as well. I ... don't know how long we're going to be in this world, but perhaps I'll come to see you again before we leave."

There were things that needed to be said, things that needed to be understood on both their parts, and she knew it as well as he did.

Aranhil nodded. "I would like that," he smiled, and it was a genuine smile this time. "Despite everything, it really was lovely to see you again, Elnara."

He reached for her hand and lifted it to his lips and kissed the backs of her knuckles, then smiled and released her hand again.

He couldn't ignore the request of a child, especially a child close to him, so Lore wandered off to follow Silvrendir, taking a look behind the door. Lore peered down at the lines drawn into the dust, so that's what Sliver had been doing he thought to himself.

"Who are all those people?"
