"You were right, love! I don't know why I was so nervous. I told my mom ages ago that I wanted to take you where we'd met," he added. "She was all excited. Said she's always wanted another boy." He smirked. "Ready to go to our spot? I have a sandwich you haven't tried before."

Dari laughed and turned a bit pink. Another boy, eh? He'd gone from corrupting her son to being a second one. What would Cody's father think? ...well, who cared what he thought?
"Yeah, I'm ready," Dari said, "Oh?"

"Yeah, you'll see. It's a surprise." He kissed Dari's cheek and led him towards the car. "I brought things for smores too, if we stay late enough. I don't think the fireflies will be up so high..." He considered. "Want to drive out into the country with me tomorrow?"

Dari smiled and nodded and followed Cody to the car.
"No, they won't be. It'll be beautiful. ...hm? Why the country?"

"So we can see the fireflies," Cody said. "We could find a field to hang out in and watch. Or chase them..." He grinned at Dari and climbed into the car. He put the key in the ignition.

"Sure," Dari said with a nod and buckled up. "We'll have to visit Toby and Maia, though. Besides, Toby went firefly-catching with Kevin not too long ago. He has jars."

"I think they want us to stop by tonight," Cody said. He smiled as he looked to Dari. "Is Kevin another of your friends? I haven't met him."

"Kevin is actually an entity from work. However old he is, he presents as fourteen or so physically and mentally. I taught him how to read and write. Well. I'm in the process of teaching him to read and write." Dari smiled to Cody.
"I teach entities. Not just kids. In fact, usually not kids."

"He'd fit right in with my classes," Cody said. "Well. Does he appear human?" Was that offensive? He didn't want a baby giant showing up for his class. That'd be a bit awkward to explain to his students.
"So we're both teachers," he said, and smiled at Dari. "So does he live there, work there, or is he simply a student?" He took off towards their mountain. It was nice to finally hear about Dari's job.

"Once he has all the basics he could very well end up at your school," Dari said with a smile, "He lives at HQ. He's a part of a race that lacks parentage. They simply appear one day. Unfortunately we did have to de-bridle him. His conditions were unsanitary, though, and upkeep was difficult so after a while we took him in. He's bound to his lake, so he has to wear a vial of water around his neck. Now that you know, you may later be tasked with looking out for our entities. We've never sent one before. Not to your school, anyway. Kevin's sort of been adopted into the family, but he likes Toby best."
It all came out like a flood now that it could finally come out at all.

A teenager who'd been removed from his home, had his powers taken from him, and had no parents. Cody couldn't imagine. "Poor kid," he said. "Oh? You'll send a group of teenagers into my class?" he grinned. "I'll have you know, dealing with human puberty is rough enough."

"He was pretty tough at the beginning, but we got him at a good age," Dari said with a shrug, "I've had to forcibly de-bridle an adult kelpie in the water before. It's not fun. They don't want it. It usually doesn't end well."

"Definitely," Dari said with a nod, "and he hadn't eaten but one person." He paused then and looked to Cody. "Uh. Sorry. He... he was just arrogant and snotty. You know, like any fourteen-year-old."

Cody swallowed. Oh well. He should've expected that. Kelpies ate people. That was almost entirely what they were known for. Apart from turning into a beautiful horse so they could eat people. "Oh, of course. He's better now? Is he learning?"
