Good.... *Mastema sat down on his side of the bed and laid back slowly* Also, Micha seems to have become good friends with Thanatos's small companion.
Proto: *He'd set his shield by the wall again and turned to look at the two confiscated alcoholic drinks for a moment*.....

*Nana was a little surprised by Mastema's remark. Had Micha really become so attached to the small fur ball?*
>.>
O-oh? Goodness me, that's wonderful...!
*Eecheb successfully manages to slip out of the cafeteria again, and presses the door for the elevator that hadn't moved. Eecheb boards the elevator and starts down to the ground floor for a second time. He wasn't going to give up, simply because Proto had taken his drink before. Though now the tequilla bottle seemed a little heavy now, and had to be held with both hands*
Eecheb: ~_~ Hmm...
*Eecheb would reach the ground floor, and looks around cautiously. Spotting Proto, the boy tries to put the tequilla bottle out of sight and sneak by the robot*
Eecheb: >>;;

*He chuckled* Well now at least the boy and Thanatos have something in common. Hmm.... I believe he is off exploring with his new companion.
Proto: *turns to see Eecheb and salutes the boy. So far, the boy seemed to have succeeded in hiding the bottle*

Ah, I'm so glad. At least he seems to be connecting with something. But--
>.>
Before you had to leave.... you were saying?
*Eecheb, sends a semi-disgruntled look Proto's way, for having taken his bottles before, and just tries to walk past the robot to the doors. He still had yet to get outside of the tower, and no robot was about to stop him again!*
Eecheb: stare ...those were my drinks!

Proto: *blinks and then gives Eecheb another few beeps. Because of the mood, Proto had missed the drink Eecheb held*
*He nodded* of course. The shackles you mentioned came about later, a way for Thanatos to keep his aura in check after his body had matured, since his mind had yet to fully master it. Nay, I had to take more drastic steps while he was still young. The first measure I had to use in keeping Thanatos alive........ was to cut and scar his back with the mark you now see there......

*Seemingly being in the clear, Eecheb finally gets to the doors and makes his exit. Truely this would be Eecheb's first solo trip outside of the tower. All the other times he was accompanied by Nana, and once by Proto. Eecheb looks back and forth as if he had gotten away with something, then in victory slowly starts to wander away in some random direction, which in this case was south*
Eecheb: whee heart Hehehe.
*Nana had seen the scarring on Thanatos' back once or twice, and had wondered about it. Now she knew just how they got there. Mastema had cut and scarred his own son?! But-- to keep him, alive?*
>.> !
J--just how did the action accomplish that?

It was a seal, a limiter, placed there to partially quell his aura. However.... it was far from enough. The symbol did not do enough to stabilize Thanatos. The next step is in a way worse than the scar. Thanatos's body wasn't strong enough to contain the aura..... so I had to make him stronger physically. The only way to enhance his body was to add something to it, and I only knew of one relatable method. I "fused" him with a second life form.... a symbiote, a being that lives in harmony with another. This symbiote was of arcane origins, a being that was a physical embodiment of shadows. Thus done, Thanatos has had a sort of second being bonded with his body. While his body served as a life line for this symbiote, it would enhance his physical ability and even gave him immense control over shadows themselves. The black clothing Thanatos wore were themselves shadows, not real clothing at all.....

*Now a fair distance from the tower, Eecheb looks behind him to make sure he wasn't followed. Seeing no one the boy continues south for a few more minutes. He'd stop soon enough, but for now he brings the tequilla bottle around his side, and hugs it to him. Green? That was a flavor he hadn't tried before, and something that Proto hadn't noticed. Did green simply go unnoticed? If he liked the drink then perhaps he'd try again later with another bottle of green stuff. Nana hadn't gone into depth on the subject of reading yet, but Eecheb was getting a head start, by trying to sound out the letters on the front of the bottle. It was obvious he had a bit of work ahead of him*
Eecheb: o.o Teh-Q-la?
*The story Mastema was telling Nana, was nothing short of a horror story. It all seemed so vicious, and yet it was all to save the boy's life. Now Nana also knew what Mastema had meant when he had said Thanatos had an accelerent added to Thanatos*
o.o;
...embodiment of shadows?
*It was a lot to take in, and Mastema probably wasn't done yet. From the sounds of it, he was just getting started*

*He nodded* In other words, an entity consisting mostly of darker magic. The seal and symbiote together were enough to strengthen Thanatos's body to a point where it could maintain. However, it did not happen quite soon enough. Thanatos lost his eighth wing..... *He paused for a moment* But there was still his underdeveloped mind. There was only one real solution, since he was far to young to be aided by my telepathy. I had to put him in a sort of perpetual sleep. For the first three months of his life.... Thanatos was kept in a sort of tank, asleep. When his mind was asleep, I could regulate his aura for him. So for the first portion of his life.... Thanatos could quite literally do nothing but sleep and dream of the day he would awaken....

*After another fifteen minutes of walking, Eecheb finds a half broken down building and sneaks inside to look at his prize. In a while he might open it, and have a sip or two, but his drink before had satisfied him. In the meantime Trilla had reached floor five and was closing in once again on the ground floor. Now she knew she had to look literally everywhere to find the place she was looking for*
Eecheb: whee Wonder what green tastes like.
*So Thanatos had originally had eight wings, and one was lost due to his power. Nana could remember how sad Thanatos had seemed once when he had spoken with her. He hadn't had his own childhood, and now she knew why, again Mastema was the cause. Of course, all of this brough around several questions in Nana's mind. She wanted every one of them answered, but how to ask the right questions? She'd need to think about everything she was taking in, and fully understand them. Her own morals would probably come into play, weighing everything, the good and the bad of the situation. However, the end result she had to remember was that Thanatos was alive thanks to Mastema, and he had his father to thank, having done everything he could in able to make sure he hada chance to live. Still there were questions she would ask, but they would be saved for another day. Nana continues to listen*
o.o
Was he even aware?

That depends what you mean. Yes, he does know of how he came to be the way he is.... the origin of the scar and everything else. I could not let him go on without knowing there was a symbiote living in his own body, of course. Though he knows this.... I do not know just how much he remembers. After he was able to live normally, I was quite amazed at how quickly his awareness developed. It is quite possible that he remembers undergoing all of these procedures to ensure his survival. He was too young for any sort of anesthesia.... he would have surely died if he had lost consciousness and all control of himself. It is quite possible he remembers having that symbol carved into his back....... and I believe it even more likely and probably that he remembers bonding with the symbiote. *Mastema gave a sort of saddened and sincere expression* Remembering those events..... I do not see how he could not remember.... no matter how young he was. Even while I kept him in the sleep stasis... I was never really sure if he was "awake" or not. For all I know..... he may have really been awake for those months he was forced to spend in that suspended state, unable to react to anything. Now you see why Thanatos says he was never a child.

*The facts laid out before her eyes, Nana too seemed saddend. Yes, now she understood Thanatos much better than she had before, and she would try to understand him even better in the future*
I... I can't imagine what both of you had to go through.
*Hearing such things, this was the type of situation where one needed a hug and needed to be kept in a hugged before listening to anymore*

*Mastema reached over and took Nana's hand in his own, a gesture of reassurance* It was not my ordeal. I believe that is all there really is to Thanatos's early history. And that leads up to what I believe to be the cause of his recent ailment

*With all that had happend to the boy in his youth, it was only a wonder what could be causing his troubles now. With deep concern for the boy Nana asks the inevitable question*
W-well... what is it?
*Trilla was now on the second floor and flying down the stairs quite quickly. Her wings were semi out-streched, giving her more balance while running down the tower*
Trilla: whee 4laugh Here and there, and everywhere~!!

Recently.... the symbiote I mentioned was removed from his being. The sudden shock of being separated from that being so quickly after so long was too much for him. His body more or less relapsed from having to support itself again.... so he was incapacitated for a time. Essentially he would have had to relearn how to use his body.....
