Teddy winced as the lights flickered on. Eerie. He wandered down the hallway, stopping at the door in front of Hartley's room. He paused, his hand leaving Hartley's body, fingertips trailing along his fingers before departing. "See you tomorrow Hartley. Sleep well, lemme know if you need anything."

" I'm sure it was nothing... anyways.. I'm going to head back to my room. It was fun. Good night you guys.."
Cassie waved as she went into the girls dorms and went to her room.

Teddy continued down the hallway. "Billy?" He tried the door, jimmying the doorknob a little bit too much and possibly breaking it. He didn't want Billy to sleep alone tonight. Something weird was going on.

Hartley waved to them both and headed to his room. The dorm was eerily quiet; probably because most of the students were at Victor's house.
Even when laying in bed later on, Hartley tossed and turned. His head was full of conflicting thoughts and emotions. He had thought that getting some revenge on the football team and all those other idiots would be the most satisfying part of the night, but really it had been just those last few moments with Cassie and Teddy in the hallway. Three friends depending on each other in the darkness.
Hartley was angry, angry at himself (as usual) and angry at the world, and he still tried to push away the the words that the Chris Powell from the other dimension had told him about him being a good man deep down inside.
The pit of his stomach tied up in knots and did backflips as he screwed his eyes shut and tried to sleep. Maybe he should schedule another session with Doctor Quinzel. Things always seemed clearer after talking to her.

Sitting there in her room.. She thought about Chris. She had been avoiding him lately...Cassie didn't hate him but he did hurt her. She also didn't want to get back together with him... but she did want to know he was okay.. Cassie looked at her cell phone. Should she call him? Cassie decided against it.. she didn't want to here his voice. But she did text him 'Are you okay?' that was it.. a simple yes or no question.. yeah that would be alright.

*Chris's phone beeped. He fished it out of his pocket and checked the text. From Cassie.
'Are you okay?'
Chris stared down at the message. Tears blurred his vision.
No. I'm not okay. I miss you. I love you. I want you back. I'm sorry, he thought. And it's what he wanted to type. But his fingers moved over different keys.
'Yes,' he typed. He lied. In the long run, she'd be happier believing the lie. Although it broke his heart into pieces. He pressed send.*

The lights floated above their heads in the detention room of the Magic Studies building, the only powers *not* bound being that of the teacher in charge, one Daimon Hellstrom. Whatever caused the lights to go off all over town couldn't keep the burning gaze of Mister Hellstrom from searing a hole in Billy's shame.
Billy sulked at his desk, his face rested in the palm of his hand as he drummed his fingers on the desktop. Without his magic, he couldn't even keep himself entertained.
"This isn't fair. I didn't cause that fight in the cafeteria." Billy complained.
"Mr. Kaplan." Daimon started. "I am well aware that Hartley Rathaway pushed you and caused a domino effect, but there was clearly no need for you to lay all blame solely at Hartley's feet and then just vanish."
"But it WAS his fault!"
"And after you left, Hartley was reportedly humiliated by Miss Cargill in front of the entire student body."
"H-He was?"
Daimon nodded. "She pushed his face into a tray of pasta and dumped jello on his head after wards. Try to imagine how *he* felt when he made the gauntlet walk out of there, and how he might be feeling now."
Now Billy *did* feel low. He knew *exactly* how Hartley felt, because he'd been there himself a hundred times over. Billy the Nerd. Billy the Geek. He'd become the un-official 'pet' of the football jocks when they felt the need to boost their own self-esteem. And with his little 'blame game' he inadvertently caused another boy to suffer the same torments that he did on a regular basis.
Still, he deserved it. Didn't he?
Billy sighed.
No, he really didn't.
**********
Detention over, and on a Saturday night! He missed absolutely everything; hanging out with Teddy. Holding hands with Teddy. Taking a walk with Teddy. Making out with Teddy.
He slipped back into his dorm room and just collapsed in his bed. Closing his eyes, he couldn't beieve Mister Hellstrom actually made him feel bad about that bully, Hartley.

"Huh?" Teddy lifted his head off the pillow, one eye still squeezed shut, the other inquisitively open - not unlike a puppy. "Babe?" He reached over, casually pawing at Billy in the dark. Felt like him. "Where were you? I went to some party, and it was really crazy. Hartley was there, and the cops came. I think I punched some people in the face." Teddy's voice was sleepy, and he mumbled some of it out. For all he knew, it could have been a dream.

"GAK!"
Billy jumped and almost hit the roof from the hand that grabbed him in the dark of his room, until he heard Teddy's sleepy voice.
He really was a dweeb. Of course Teddy would have been in here. Teddy usually did sleep over in his bed.
He sat back on the bed and slid under the covers beside Teddy and grumbled.
"I got caught in detention with Mister Hellstrom over what happened in the cafeteria. He actually made me feel bad about what happened to Hartley."
Billy closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.

"You should. Hartley is sweet actually. And really Billy, you both get picked on all the time. It's stupid that you should bully each other." Teddy pulled Billy up close against him, holding him tight as he drifted off to sleep.

"You both start things with each other equally. You keep it up, and I'll stop sleeping over. Just let you lay here in the dark all by yourself. You'll just have to make out with your pillow in my absence."

*Chris shoved the phone back in his pocket. There. Done. Cassie could move on now. And he could...he could stop hoping she would change her mind at least. He wiped at eyes and then realized that all the lights were out. In Midvale too. That was strange.
If the police AND the teachers were dealing with the party and the lack of power at the school...then who was patrolling Midvale? Someone needed to. And he had nothing else...at all.
He armored up and threw himself into the air. If anyone tried anything funny then he would be there. And he wasn't in the mood to go easy on them. Chris winged his way towards downtown Midvale.*

Several hours after the black out, on the out skirts of the city, a large mansion could be seen to be on fire. It was in fact the source of the outage and where Danielle Baptiste and Robert Benson where being held.
