Bwah, internet problems suck.
So I'm back at school now. I'm perfectly fine with this, as I'm in an on-campus apartment with my friends. That and the school's greatly fast internet connection. Anyways, I hook up my computer to go online and I find that they've changed the procedure. Now we have to download this annoying cisco Clean Agent program in order to get on the network. So I download it, expecting no trouble. After installing it, it then refuses to let me on the network as I don't have Windows Service Pack 2. After it gives me temporary access, I go to download service pack 2. As I try to do that, my proxy settings which I used to access the library's peridoical database were preventing me from downloading it normally. So I find another way to download it after much annoyance. End of problem, right?
WRONG!
I go to the thing again to get on the network. Now it refuses to let me on due to a lack of anti-virus stuff. So I call my parents and get them to help me get myself a copy of McAffee Virus Scan. I pay for that and download it and install it. Then I restart my computer and start up a virus scan. It crashes half-way through. Fairly irritated, I try to restart my computer.
Nope. Not happening. One of my winows files is now corrupted or missing.
So let's recap. I go without virus scan for months with no problems. After I install it, it breaks my computer. Frustration doesn't begin to describe it. I take it to my friend who's knowledgable with windows who tells me I need to fix that file. The best way to do that would be to use my windows repair disk. unfortunately, I have never even seen my windows repair disk. I looked for it a few months back when I was trying to install Half-Life, as some of you may recall. After calling home and confirming they couldn't find it either, I call Resnet, our resident network people on campus. They couldn't fix the problem over the phone (NAH!) so I make an appointment for the next day at noon.
When I take my computer in, it turns out that they're not equipped to fix the problem at the place where the appointment was made for. I wonder why they couldn't realize that over the phone. Anyways, I get sent to their main office, all the way on the other side of campus. Keep in mind that this is a full half hour after I got there for my appointment. 15 minutes was spent waiting for the one person at that office to get over to me, the other 15 was spent by that person trying to get ahold of the main office because he didn't have a direct line there. In the end, I go to the other side of campus. When I get there, they give me an XP Proffessional disk, which I try to use to fix my computer. Unfortunately, it didn't do anything. Then the supervisor arrives and hands over a disk of XP that works on Dell computers (which mine is). I put that in and proceed to wait for an hour and a half as it scans my computer. As I wait, reading a book I had wisely decided to bring, it begins to rain. My first though: "How am I going to get my computer back to my house if it's raining?
My second though: "Wait, is this first rain? It is, isn't it? And I'm at Porter. Crap."
For those of you not familiar, there is a tradition at Santa Cruz relating to the first rain. At first rain, people go over to Porter, strip, and run naked around the campus. To those of you who think it wouldn't be so bad, consider what Greg, one of my friends who's in the Village with me, pointed out. The people who are naked for that are generally the ones who ought not to be. Last year I avoided it by being down in the Village, hanging out with my friends. We locked all doors and windows and armed ourselves with whatever weapons were available. Fortunately, the Village was too far out of the way for them to go to. Quick description of the village, they're a bunch of on-campus apartments in the middle of an old quarry. I'm in it this year along with many of the same friends from last year. This year, I avoided it by being in the Resnet office, which is kind of out of the way as well. So after we hear some of them running around out there, I turn my attention back to my book. Eventually, my computer finishes and seems to be working again. After thanking them, I headed back down to my room. And now I'm back online. Backlog time!

Haha, sounds like an adventure, ah, I hate computer problems with such a passion, especially if they end up becoming frustrating to no end. Good to know you got everything back and up again.
In other news, just finished watching, Final Fantasy VII: Last Order. I'm assuming it all leads into the game, which then leads into Advent Children. However, the timeline in the OVA is a tad confusing, but maybe I just need to watch it when I'm not tired. All-in-all, it was pretty good.
