"Good morning!" Cody smiled happily. He finished packing and turned to capture Dari's lips. "Ready to go?" he asked. He was really rather excited. What would Dari say?

"Mmhm!" Dari agreed through the kiss. He had already dressed and prepped his human form in the usual way. He laughed slightly and gave Cody one last kiss on the temple before they headed out to the car.

Cody smiled and happily followed Dari to the car. He got in the driver's seat. "So you still want to drop by Toby's once we're done at the park?" he asked.

"We don't have to," Dari replied. He almost didn't want the upset to their plans. "I can just call him and he'll be fine. I know he trusts you."

Cody looked uncertain. He studied Dari. "Are you sure?" he asked. "I think we should. Then he won't worry so much when we lose cell service." He grinned. "I'm taking you hiking!"

Dari grinned. "I'm sure. I'll just call him now."
He pulled out what was actually Toby's phone and dialed Maia. They hadn't had home phone service in years.

Maia answered the phone. "Hello?" she sounded groggy; apparently they'd chosen to sleep in for the weekend. "Dari?" The caller id read Toby💕, but Toby didn't have his phone. "Are you alright?"

"Hi, Maia! Did I wake you? I'm sorry. I'm fine. I just wanted to let you and Toby know I'm still alive, and we're going hiking so I may lose cell service shortly before Cody skins me and wears my flesh like a jacket."

"Hm? No, I've been awake for ages," Maia lied. "Things went well? Toby told me he talked to you last night." She yawned, and looked to her fiancee.
There was a pause after Dari's next statement. Then a sound of the phone being set down and a muffled "Toby wake up! Now!" She picked the phone back up. "Dari, you're stronger than Cody. We'll come get you."

Dari burst out laughing. Oops! That had definitely been the wrong person in the wrong state to tell that joke in!
"No, no! Maia! MAIA! I WAS KIDDING! MAIA!"
Toby woke up suddenly, fearing something was wrong at the sound of Maia's panic. "What, what's going on?!"
"Nothing. Tell him it's nothing, Maia! It was a joke!"

Maia handed Toby the phone. "Dari says Cody's going to take him where there's no cell service. And now he says he's joking--" she clearly didn't believe Dari. "Tell him to come home."

Toby picked up the phone and sighed.
"Well?" he asked. He knew Dari had heard what Maia said.
"I joked that Cody was going to skin me and wear my coat as a jacket."
"Why?"
"I thought it was funny."
"Alright. Are you really losing cell service?"
"Yeah, probably. We're hiking to our spot. I'll call you after."
"Please do."
"No problem."
Toby handed Maia the phone back and fall back into bed. "He's fine."

Maia sat up, shoving at Toby's arm. She hung up the phone. "How can you sleep?" she complained. She took her phone out into the hall with her as she headed to the bathroom to get dressed.
Cody looked to Dari, amused. "Skin you alive?" he teased. "Now your mom really hates me."

Dari smiled. "I think she thinks I was serious," he said. "If she shows up, you can blame me."

"I'm still mad!" Maia called back, pulling on her dress.
"Well. Aren't selkies supposed to be sensitive about being skinned alive?" Cody asked. "I don't really know much about them," he added. "Besides what I read in elementary school."
