"Sure," Dari said. It was just a trip to the park, but he wouldn't mind calling her again. "She's not, she's not," he said to Cody, "besides, we both need our dose of mother guilt."

"Talk to you tomorrow, then!" Hannah smiled and hung up. Cody rolled his eyes. "Sorry about her." He snuggled against Dari. "I can't decide. Which one sounds best?"

"Talk to you then!" Dari chimed, and handed over Cody's phone. "Mm. Did you know that I can hear what the people across the street are doing?" He looked between their choices. "The second one."

"Did you know eavesdropping is usually considered rude?" Cody teased. He selected the second movie and smiled.

"I can't help it. It's just natural. I'm used to filtering out the extra noise," Dari said with a smile, "I can see 360 degrees around my head both ways in my natural form too."

"So basically you're every lie a mother tells personified." Cody grinned and kissed Dari. "I knew you mommoded. I love you." He hit play. "Check the cookies with me?"

"Yup," Dari said with a laugh. "Only while jelly, though."
He turned toward the oven and saw an opportunity. "I can also smell on a molecular level. The cookies... they are not, in fact, done."He made a dramatic hand motion and closed his eyes and might have been seen as serious and dramatic did he not then start laughing and hop off of the couch.

"You cheated," Cody complained, and went to check on the cookies. He opened the oven and peered in at them. "Hey Dari. You're right!"

Dari laughed.
"I can't smell anything special," he said, "I just knew the timer hadn't gone off and made a shot in the dark. Besides, all smelling is molecular! Dogs are just better at it then humans, and everyone is better at it than me in my natural form, because I just plain can't."

Cody closed the oven and moved to kiss Dari's cheek. "You had me fooled," he said. "I guess we'll wait for the timer." He stole a proper kiss this time. "We should have a picnic up on our mountain tomorrow."

"You know... After the park." Cody said, awkwardly. He kissed Dari's cheek. "We'll visit Toby first so he doesn't think I've taken you to my secret lab underneath my apartment or something.".

"You know, you joked about there being a secret base under an orchard, but that's exactly what we have," Dari said with a smile, "It took everything in me to not break it to you right there. Or right in the beginning. You would have thought I was insane."

"I would've thought you were making fun of me," Cody said. He kissed Dari's cheek. "Thank you for trusting me with this, love."
The buzzer went off; cookies were had, Cody insisting on eating them almost immediately so the chocolate chips wouldn't harden. Movies were watched, and then bed.
Cody woke early that morning, maybe due to his alarm--maybe due to excitement. He was packing a bag; drinks, fluffernutter sandwiches (for Dari's benefit) and a bag of marshmallows.

Dari took his time as urged and then came downstairs to meet Cody as he packed his bag. He smiled and approached the man, hugging him from behind.
"Good morning, love."
