"Toby was afraid I'd hurt you," he mused. He stroked Dari's cheek gently. "I hope you know I never will. I was afraid at first. I always believed. I always wanted to find one, meet an alien and befriend it. I went further without knowing it!" He smiled at Dari.

Dari grinned.
"Of course! When I saw what you were reading, I couldn't say 'no.' I know you'd never hurt me, and I understand if my natural form frightens you."

Cody smiled. "We made fun of ancient aliens together," he recalled. "It doesn't scare me anymore, love. I know its you." He leaned against Dari, snuggling. "We'd better tell mom we're back together. She said I must have done something horrible to make you leave and hung up on me." He shook his head. "Lets not tell her your secret."

"Oh no!" Dari said, and then laughed. "We'll tell her... hm. We'll tell her my job was getting in the way, and we had a fight. A misunderstanding." He smiled to Cody and shrugged. "It's not a total lie."

"Sounds like a plan," Cody offered Dari his phone. "You call and explain, I'll find us a movie." That they probably wouldn't watch.

"Oh boy, I have to do this?" Dari sighed and picked up the phone to dial Cody's mom. Oh boy. Another lie, but this time to cover for the greatest relationship of all time!

"Yup," Cody said, cheerfully. He started to look through movies on Netflix. "She yelled at me last time, it's your turn."
Hannah answered. "Cody, I don't want to hear it," she began.

Dari laughed, and then heard Hannah's voice on the line.
"Mrs. Fletcher! It's actually Dari. He told me to call you."

"Oh, hello." Hannah's tone became frosty. "Why're you using his phone? Called to explain why my son's so unhappy, I suppose."

Oh boy. Dari laughed again.
"No, no, I'm sorry." He really had to work on that! "I'm calling to tell you that we've made up and are alright again. He said you've been angry with him, and I just wanted to let you know it's all okay."

Hannah paused. "Oh good, I knew you boys would work it out!" But the way her tone had brightened considerably told another story. "What happened? You're really alright? Do you boys need chocolate? Wine?"

"We're making cookies," Dari said, his smile audible, "We are, yes. We're really alright. I promise. We're getting ready to watch a movie on the couch."

Hannah considered Dari's words. "If you make Cody cry like that again, I won't forgive you," she told him. "Things going we'll?"

"My sister-in-law wouldn't answer his calls... Trust me, I never planned to make him cry, and if it makes you feel any better I cried too." He nodded and stroked Cody's hair. "Yes. Things are going well. We're going to the park tomorrow."

"That doesn't make me feel any better." Hannah frowned. "Good. Oh, tell me how it goes, won't you?" It seemed Cody's mother knew something about plans for the park.
"Mom, don't make Dari feel guilty." Cody chimed in, looking up. He smiled at Dari.
