Because Throwing Stars are terrible weapons against armored foes, especially moving ones unless you slam a ton of voodoo on the star/chakram, and even then the laws of freeform state that at the distance they are effective the opponent will dodge ot or be ready to soak the damage into a non-vital area.
Another reason is because most people won't RP fight against a ranged user if they can avoid it. This also bleeds into IC as most melee people would rather get the jump on a ranged character versus head on combat. Also heavy ranged such as bows and guns are better suited to lethal encounters versus tournament settings.

The grades were 9 to 7 and 8 to 5 and 7 to 7.1 You would have lost even without the point from profile violation.
On the other hand if you really are Acro's spirit brother then everything makes sense.

Sigil Warden You would be right Zan, were it not for the fact that friction does not apply to a repulsive surface. You know, like a Mag-Lev train? It's slippery because there is no actual surface to hold onto, his grip is simply not allowed to make contact with anything. *tilts head* Point could be made for that...yes, I would suppose. I'm going to have to go back over exactly how you wrote your ability within your profile *ponders off for a moment to go through trying to find it* Alright you used "magical force" in your decription of how the armor works covering only the parts of you that your armor does not, so that would take away the contores of your armor for him to grab onto but not your face. Flipping through a few dozen different RP books of different genres, I'm going to say that it's more like "Mage Armor" than an actual Star-Trek "forcefield." And I can get my hands on Mage Armor all I want even though it is a magical force, there is substance and grip to the construct. At least how I read it in the little bit of information that you gave within the profile. Basically....your profile left up the actual "how" of the ability up to the judges. If you'd clarified the meaning of "Force-field" then you'd been right in saying that it was a repulsive surface. But as you didn't in any fashion that I know of, I see where and why the call was made.

A discussion on thrown weapons
Sigil: I would disagree with you on one thing. Yes, they can dodge or deflect them, but even in this tournament...they haven't. I've seen people taking hits from some really really really horribly telegraphed throws. Throws that a five year old could step out of the way of.
Tres:Where do you think this little idea came from? That singular ability makes it so that your throws are worth a damn. Well that and that other one you got where you can palm a weapon without being seen.
Techpriest: You might have a point... but like daggers are any better? Especially in a tournament, a handful of throwing stars used at the correct time in a fight will win out on one pisspoor throw of a dagger.
It really all comes down to who can make the fight the more interesting.

Throwing a dagger for most experienced characters is because even at close range, it creates a false target in which the opponent needs to respond to. Someone closing distance and you can half-a** throw a dagger? You could wing it at them and they need to address it. A good RPer will identify when they throw it might not reach a full turn in the air if they throw it, but you still need to deal with the fact that it is a spinning blade in the air. It may not be a threatening throw for a kill shot but a character running at someone who puts an object in the air is going to IC want to avoid it. This changes everything and forces the character to readjust plans and gives your character a tiny window to get ready.

Actually, Zan goofed his basic arithmetic. If you add up the partial scores, it comes to 8-7 in my favor.
That aside though, if your tactics score had actually reflected what you were doing, instead of what the judges thought looked cool, then one would have been a tie, the other clearly in my favor, and one in yours. And that's not even touching on me getting penalized for instantly activating an instant ability, as written, and then penalized again for using it as written, which is that it extends the protection (and therefore the properties of) her armor to the rest of her body, then penalized a third time for using it's physical properties to get out of a grapple.

It came from simply needing a way to control space without using firearms or heavy supernatural abilities (such as fireballs). The idea originates from Tres before he ever had powers. I played Tres for around 2 years without powers before the events that caused him to develop psionic abilities.

I'd much rather be using daggers and handaxes for use as a secondary weapon that can actually be useful in a fight and have a handful of smaller objects for long distance throws that can be put to use in a way that they can actually cause damage.
It's a weight thing.
Sigil: I was positive that I did that on one or two of the score cards. Sorry that it was on yours.... even though I was pretty sure I didn't before hand. I'll have to go back and look over it.
Tres: I was talking about writting up the post in the first place.... but that's no matter. Your one of the few who actually have gone out of their way to make it so that there is a reason they can throw weapons on the sly and have something to point to why it should actually work.

Don't worry everyone, Sigil has ******** downs syndrome.
I gave the fight a 9 to 7.
I also docked him 1 point for the profile violation, so do you know what that'd bring the fight to? That's right, ******** 9 to 8.

I'm not bothering to go back to the mod thread to check the other scores, but I know Vintrict had a wider gap than me.
So...I give Sigil one of the higher scores of the round. And yet here he is bitching anyway. And yeah, I'm fine with giving a -1 for the armor ability, cause he apparently thinks it makes him god mode.
