"Something better, hm?" Dari teased, and then nodded. "I'm sure he'd like that. On the mission where Toby was shot, a group of average human beings were keeping a wounded entity hostage planning to do who-knows-what to her. That's what we do, you know. We save entities from humanity and vice versa. We're more secretive than the FBI. Almost no one knows we exist."

"Something better," Cody grinned. It faded soon after, abd he hesitated. "Oh? That's awful... So you guys.. Is that how Toby healed so fast? Magic?"

"Well it's not magic, it's just his biology," Dari said with a shrug as he slipped his ring back on. "The problem was that his tie clip embedded in his chest and dissolved into his system. He would have never been in danger if it wasn't for that. It was awful. He just sort of fell over. I don't think he expected it either. Now help me get these in the oven." He paused, took his ring off, set it on the counter, stuck his alien hand into the preheated oven, and pressed it into the rack with a smile.

Oh, hos biology. That made sense... Sort of. What really got Cody's attention was Dari putting his hand in the oven without an ovenmit. He quickly shoved Dari's hang away from the rack. "Don't do that! Are you crazy? You'll get burnt!"

"Be careful!" was Dari's immediate reaction, but it was amidst laughter. He turned his hand this way and that, showing the absence of damage.
"Heat can't hurt me. Neither can cold, at least not as hot or cold as it can get on Earth. I can't feel pain, nothing. I'm just a fluid."

"Because pain hurts!" Dari laughed, and then stuck his ring back on. He still put the pans in without oven mitts, but he didn't go straight for the rack. Their cookies might come out a little more chewy than usual with all of the trapped heat he had just wasted, but he liked texture.
"I'm a very hard creature to hurt, in my natural form. I mean, I never hurt in the way humans think, but I can survive multiple gunshots, electric shock, amputation, all sorts of things."

Cody wrapped his arms around Dari once he was in human form. "I'd prefer none of those things happen to you," He said.

Dari grinned and hugged back.
"I'd just be a little bit bigger or a little bit smaller, that's all." He kissed the top of Cody's head. Perhaps now Cody would begin to recognize the differences in his natural voice and that which the ring gave to him.

"I still don't want you to," Cody said, still hugging. "We have thirty minutes between now and cookies being done," Cody mused.

Cody didn't really have a preference. Both were his Dari. "I dunno," he said softly. "They're both the person I fell in love with."

Dari nodded.
"Well I can feel you better this way, but if you ever want me to take the ring off, just say so. I hear I'm rather soft." He scooped Cody up then and brought him into the living room to snuggle.
"Thank you again."

"Stay this way," Cody said then, and smiled. Dari could feel just as much as he could in this form. "You keep thanking me. Were you really worried I'd go crazy?" He kissed Dari's cheek. "Because I already have. I'm crazy in love."

Dari threw his head back and laughed at the corniness, but truly he enjoyed it.
"Not crazy, just leave me, be afraid of me, not believe me, something. Anything." Sure, Cody had appeared to be having a mental breakdown when he left, but that was nothing when reality was rocking on its heels.
